After selling 75% of the toy group Top-Toy, Peter and Susanne Gjørup has become one of richest families in Denmark. The Top-Toy group includes prominent toy brands such as BR and Toys’R’Us and was sold for an amount of € 230 million (DKK 1.7 billion). The Gjørup family now intend to invest their new fortune in startups with exceptional growth potential.

As their first venture has been a two-digit million investment in the software startup Famly. The startup is creating a social network to facilitate better communication between daycare institutions and parents. They aim to become the facebook of day care institutions, a goal that has been made possible by the new investment.

“It has been an incredibly positive experience to get acquainted with Famly. As it is our first investment outside of Top-Toy, it has been more important for us to invest in something that has a good product and some good people who bring happiness for families with children as we recognize from the toy industry,” Says Peter Gjørup in an interview with Børsen

Anders Laustsen, the CEO and founder of Famly, states that the investment will be used to focus on the product. The injection will give them the opportunity to further their activities both in Denmark and abroad.

Both Peter and Susanne Gjørup are excited about their new venture opportunities. They want their investments to have a positive impact but the primary goal is to grow the fortune. Peter Gjørup explains that they, therefore, intend to choose carefully between investments, aiming at startups with big potential.
