Grip, a startup formerly known as Networkr, has relaunched as Grip. Networkr’s first appearance last year got words of caution from TechCrunch, as the market for proximity-based social networking platforms is quite tough in attracting users. Now, a year later, the Tinder-style networking platform is back to the market and will focus on connecting professionals exclusively in the Copenhagen region. The app was launched in both Google Play and the App Store with 15 live communities such as UI/UX, Team Sketch, Seed Investment CPH and Copenhagen Startups as well as the the Copenhagen based co-working spaces, SOHO/NOHO and Rocket Labs.

So how is Grip different from any other existing networking platforms? Networks such as Weave only let users meet professionals in their vicinity and on LinkedIn the ability to discover new connections is vastly limited by users’ existing “connections” on the platform. On Grip, however, every professional is never more than a handshake away, regardless of their location, background, or if they are “in each others network”. The only thing that matters is that two professionals are interested in talking to each other.

“We believe that there should be a fun and more engaging way to discover new professional opportunities, where you are not limited by your existing network and/or location.” Says Tim Groot (Co-Founder & CEO of Grip).

Grip is a spin-off of Copenhagen & London based mobile app developer Nodes and has raised a Seed round from the company and angel investors Andreas Rasmussen (Managing Partner Nodes), Søren Pedersen (CEO ADtomic), and Jakob Langemark (CEO Hello Group).

To keep their users updated, Grip makes insightful stats about users in different communities that covers things like interests, years of experience and skills. See what Grip communities look like after week 1.
