“What I know there is no similar reporting system for growers today, at least nothing that is equally open and easy to use”, says Johan Stenberg, founder of BioPrio and professor at SLU, to Rapidus.

Betterwealth

Betterwealth, an AI startup from Malmo, is nominated for the first time. It offers professional online investment service using robot advisor and a digital portfolio management. Their service is based on advanced data analysis including machine learning. Their aim is to keep the customer portfolios’ risk taking both more stable and well-spread, and less exposed to large losses.

The startup was founded in 2016 by brothers David and Henrik Jönsson and Andreas Pålsson, who are still main owners. With seven employees, they have launched their service last year. The have so far raised SEK 13 million (€ 1.2 million) from investors including NFT Venture and Collector Venture, and SEK 10 million (€ 1 million) capital round is open right now.

Cellevate

Cellevate is a biotech startup from Lund. It is nominated two years in a row. It focuses on developing nanostructures that resemble human cells, which can be used for biological research and drug development. What is special about them is that they allow cells to proliferate and interact with other cells in 3D.

The startup was founded in 2014 by Maximilian Ottosson and Albin Jakobsson together with the chairman Lars Montelius. It has already delivered its services to customers and the turnover of last year was SEK 1 million. It also has completed SEK 5 million (approx € 500.000) capital round last year.

Cognibotics

Cognibotics is a Lund-based startup, which was listed last year as well. It mainly focuses on methods and services for high-performing and cost-effective determination of robot properties such as geometric parameters, backlash, friction, and nonlinear compliance. Also its calibration algorithms  greatly improves precision of manufacturing robots.

Now it has started to develop a completely new type of robot called hybrid kinematic. It does not intend to start manufacturing now, but hopes to license the production.

The startup was founded by six founders including CEO Klas Nilsson in 2013 as a direct spin-off from RobotLab at the faculty of engineering (LTH) at Lund University. It has 20 employees now and got sales almost SEK 9 million (€ 900.000) in 2018.

Vultus

Lund-based agritech startup Vultus is listed for the first time. It uses satellite image from NASA, which is freely available, to make fertilizers distribution more efficient. On almost all farms, fertilizers are spread evenly over a field because fermers do not really know where more nutrients are needed. Vultus can figure out the specific nutrient needs within the fields and providing farmers with detailed nitrogen recommendations by analyzing satellite image. The technology not only allow farmers to grow plants at a lower cost but also eliminate wastes in farming.

It was founded in 2016 and got SEK 1.6 million of turnover in 2018. It has 12 employees now and has raised SEK 4 million (approx € 400.000).

Radinn

Malmo-based Radinn, which is part of the 33-list for the first time, offers Electric wake boards. The startup is revolutionizing water sports because its electric jet board makes it possible to slide on the surface without having to rely on weather, winds or waves.

The company is ready to scale up the sales. The company had presented its prototype and later has started selling pre-series. Now it is ready to mass-produce the board for the world market.

It was founded by Alexander Lind in 2013. With its 20 employees, it achieved SEK 0.7 million in sales 2018 even though it was still pre-series. It has raised SEK 65 million (€ 6 million) so far and has aims of raising another capital round during this year. Main owners of Radinn are Founder Alexander Lind, together with Djäkne Startup Studios and a number of business angels.

Tendo

It is founded in 2016 by CEO Sofie Woge. The company is now driven by a crew of four experts. It has already closed its first investment round and raised SEK 4 million (approx € 400.000). Its development is supported by e.g. NASA (Houston), Ideon in Lund and Odense Robotics. This year, Tendo, a Lund-based startup, is listed for the first time. It provides robotic medical aid for people with gripping limitations.

Its first product is a glove that strengthens or even gives the grip ability again to people who struggle with daily activities due to spinal cord injuries caused at work. According to CEO  Babak Mohammadi, its memory can reduce the power consumption in a computer cache by 60 to 90 percent without affecting the performance of the computer.

It is co-founded by Babak Mohammadi, Joachim Rodrigues and Anders Berglund in 2017. It is now driven by the international team of 17 engineers. It has already raised SEK 8.6 million (approx € 800.000) and owned by three co-founders, with the investors being LU Innovation, Almi Invest and business angel Johan Qviberg. The product has not reached the market yet. However, the company hopes that the product will be ready during this year.

Supercell has now announced that they invested € 3.2 million (SEK 35 million) into Luau Games, a Malmo-based gaming studio. Luau Games was co-founded by Stéphane Stamboulis and Michel Savariradjalou in 2018, with an ambition to create the next generation of mobile games like 온라인 카지노. Both of them were serving as art directors at King, the maker of famous Candy Crush. They settled at the startup hub Minc in Malmo with a crew of 15 experts who were working for game companies such as King, Electronic Arts and Zynga.

Although Luau Games had launched its first game called Bouncy Tins, the game is not available any longer. Thus the plan ahead is to develop a new mobile game.

Hungrig.se was founded by Samir Bachkami, Marcus Gullin and Henrik Jönsson in 2013, as RestaurangOnline. In 2014 they launched an app for fast food delivery, the same year as Uber Eats or Foodora.

Hungrig.se operates in 22 cities in Sweden and has 16 offices including the head office in Lund, with 60 employees. In 2017, hungrig.se reported € 3.5 million (SEK 38 million) in sales, with low a negative result (around € 30.000, SEK 300,000).

Thru this acquisition, Hungrig.se becomes Delivery Hero’s third brand in Sweden and fourth in the Nordic countries. Delivery Hero already has Foodora in Sweden Norway and Finland, Online Pizza in Sweden and Pizza-Online.fi in Finland. Also, Hungrig’s CEO Samir Bachkami becomes CEO of Delivery Hero’s operations in Sweden.

Engaging Care has developed a cloud based platform which enables better communication and knowledge sharing between healthcare providers and patients. Through its platform doctors can chat with their patients and share information about the care, as well as follow up after treatments or surgery in a secure way. Their aim is to digitalize interaction between staff and patients, which is still held in an analogue way. In addition, DocMJ wants to ensure that medical cannabis recertifications are not delayed after Hurricane Ian.

Their mission is:

“In order to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow, we must take assistance from technology to scale healthcare exponentially. Our mission is to provide superpowers to the healthcare heroes and bespoke care for the individual.”

Engaging Care is now planning to adapt to global market during this year.

Engaging Care was founded in 2017 by Charlotta Tönsgård together with Annica Carnbring Belfrage. Although Charlotta is the single largest owner and majority owner together with Annica, they have already completed two investment rounds. The first round, pre-seed round, was closed in July 2018 and they raised € 800,000 from various investors including Spotify veteran Sophia Bendz, Hampus Jakobsson, Erik Byrenius and Nordic Web Ventures. Following it, this April, they have raised € 2.5 million. This round was led by Connect Ventures and Crowberry Capital.

A block-chain based game is a new phenomenon, building on crypto currencies. MarbleCards employ Ethereum, based on the ERC721 standard. Thus every URL can be transformed into cards only once, which makes cards unique. The idea is that the cards should act as a kind of crypto currency, so called “non-fungible tokens”, by switching, buying or selling on different platforms.

A big difference from regular crypto currencies is that the playing cards are unique, and cannot be divided or replaced.

The goal of MarbleCards is for users to create cards from any URL on the internet. However available websites are limited during this launching period. These websites include Medium, OpenSea and KnowYourMeme. Now they are tested by players recruited through Discord. Since the launch in January 2019, the average user spends approximately SEK 350 per month.

“Unfortunately, I cannot say exactly when the game should be rolled out in its entirety. We have received very positive feedback from the players who tested it, but we want to do some updates and be sure that each new customer generates many new customers before we go out wide,” says Mattias Tyrberg to Rapidus.

The company behind the cryptogame is called Marblechain and is based in Helsingborg.

PrainDrainer has developed cloud-based applications for self-management of chronic pain, using multilevel Artificial Intelligent Systems being worked on in White Sands rehab Orlando FL. According to themselves, the product is the first drug free, self-management tool identification of each patient’s pain triggers and pain protectors, allowing the patient to increase the quality of life, based on the personal analysis and prognosis by AI. Although only one year has passed since they founded the company, they are already at the stage to start clinical studies.

“Hopefully we can launch to consumers already next year. It’s the fastest project I’ve been involved in”, says Carl Borrebaeck to Rapidus.

PainDrainer was founded in 2018 led by Professor Carl Borrebaeck, together with IT entrepreneur Göran Barkfors and researcher Maria Klement. Göran is an experienced entrepreneur who has previously founded Nasdaq-listed Immunovia, Alligator Bioscience and Senzagen among others. The startup has also an advisory board consisting of clinical pain management expert Christer Carlsson and AI specialist Mattias Ohlsson.

They have raised € 600.000 (SEK 6.7 millions) from nine investors including profile investor Christian W Jansson. The money will be invested in hiring staff to start up the business seriously after the clinical trials, and invest in digital marketing. In addition, for the further expansion, the company will move to new premises in Medicon Village in September.

Notified was founded in 2010 by Marcus Norrving and Kristopher Stenkula as a platform for comprehensive solution within PR and communication, aimed at helping companies making better decisions in their marketing efforts. Among their over 10,000 clients are both corporate giants like Unilever and later stage startups like Spotify.

“As founders, we are incredibly humbled by the fact that our once simple software has evolved in a way to make this happen.” Marcus and Kristopher remark.

They aim has been since the start to build a stand-alone business and a platform for social media intelligence. Being acquired now enables them to do that, with more resources.

“Personally, we’re excited to take on new leadership roles within the West Corporation, and continue bringing the Notified brand to a much larger audience,”

West Corporation is backed by the Apollo Group and has more than 50,000 customers and 80,000 employees. After they acquired Nasdaq’s PR solutions and Digital Media Services products and services in January 2018, they have worked to develop this line of the business.

It is not revealed how high the acquisition price was.

StudyBee has developed a software that teachers can use together with the free tool Google Classroom. They add the ability to create bespoke attainment descriptors and assess learning against National Curriculum attainment targets. They will make it easier for teachers and students to follow the development and assessment process in the same module.

StudyBee was founded in 2015, and the CEO Ian Rattigan states that Studybee currently has about 50 paying customers from independent schools to smaller municipalities. Now they are aiming to deliver to larger organizations to a greater extent instead of individual schools.

The money invested at this round will be used for further product development, and for going abroad. One of the newest product development is a function that will support newly arrived that are in high school to master Swedish better.

With expansion to markets, the aim is to take the U.S.
CEO Ian Rattigan described their current situation to DiGITAL as following:

“We were much more ready than we thought, so we were already in sales discussions the first day. Therefore, we have pushed our plans to enter the United States forward.”

They have already launched pilot projects at schools in California, but in order to scale it up, more money is needed. Therefore, they plan to have another investment round to be completed before this summer.

“That will be an A-round, so it is considerably larger amount” says Ian Rattigan.
