Think Accelerate already announced that there will be an impressive number of new members upcoming spring – 16 new companies!

What is more, half of these startups are planning to focus on financial engineering services. According to the experts, the total amount of promised investment is about SEK 150,000 (15,5 thousand EURO). According to Joachim Samuelsson, Øresund Fintech’s chairman, these investments come mostly from a syndicate of investors. The association also contributes with guidance and offers advanced technology platforms to startup companies to develop their applications.

According to Alexander Bastien, Operational Manager at Think Accelerate, startups focused on financial and tech industries have a huge potential in Skåne region.

“When it comes to technology, for some reasons, nowadays, banking industry is far behind other industries. Which could not have stayed unnoticed forever. Thus, nowadays, many professional in the industry begin to realize this gap. And here is when Øresund Fintech takes the lead! We have people with experience who can help new companies to reach the next level. Fintech accelerators are more common for huge financial metropolises like London. While we, are here, in the Öresund region and it seems that we are the first of our type in Sweden, ” says Alexander Bastien, to 8till5.se.

The first major gathering at Øresund Fintech with the main theme “M-commerce”, is scheduled for mid-November. It has rather an ingenious name – “Ø-råd” (“Island council”)  and will be held by five founders of Øresund Fintech.

In three years, Pakkelabels managed to turn into an extremely promising IT company with about 15,000 Danish business customers. The short but bright history of Pakkelabels goes back to 2014. In this year Hung Ho, software engineer, and Nicklas Nguyen, engineer in robot technology, founded their company.

The main idea, standing behind Pakkelabel is that it purchases major shipments from freight companies. After that, the company divides these shipments and further sells smaller parts of transport services. As a result, small online stores get an opportunity to send packages and pay for them significantly less.

This year, the founders of the startup announced their readiness to move forward and become an international company. The first target of their expansion is their northern neighbor – Sweden.

As Hung Ho, one of the founders of Pakkelabels says:

“Pakkelabels have managed to form a good reputation in Denmark and now it is the right time for us to move forward. We have already prepared the whole new strategy for Sweden. We are hoping to start implementing it as soon as possible. No later than by the end of 2018 we are planning to reach our goal. Sweden is easy to expand because the company can use the same shipping companies as we use here in Denmark, such as PostNord, GLS and Bring.”

According to the founder of Pakkelabels, their customers enjoy using the company’s technology. As this technology makes the business packaging much cheaper, faster and simpler. Thus, the number of the customers grows every day as more and more companies are becoming interested in working with Pakkelables’ technology.

Including the sister company that sells advisory services to e-commerce companies, Pakkelabels expects a turnover of 40 million Danish kronor (about € 5,3 million) in the fiscal year 2016-2017.

EValent is an e-commerce supplier, that delivers e-commerce services and products in a form of pre-packaged or tailored e-commerce solutions. Since its foundation, the company has been growing steadily. As for today, eValent consists of 28 employees and has a turnover of over 28 million kroner (3,7 million euro). Having Hossein Sadr on the team, suggests that the company is ready to take on the next big step.

TakeDaily was founded by Marc Lucas, in collaboration with doctors, dieticians and pharmacists. The idea behind the project is that by answering a simple questionnaire of 15-20 questions, consumers can find out which vitamins their bodies lack and the exact doses of them. These days a promising startup has received millions from Capnova, a Danish investment and development company.

“TakeDaily has found a right place among a dietary supplements. With the help of the latest technology a strong team has created a unique product,” says investment manager at Capnova Anders Holme Jensen.

How does it work in practice?

Firstly, users must answer a short questionnaire on the website about their diet and lifestyle. After doing so, TakeDaily will pack daily combinations of vitamins in blisterpacks and will send these packages to the mailboxes every month. TakeDaily follows all dietary advices and rules issued by the European Food Safety Authority. All products and forms and are registered within the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

“The questionnaire is the first step. Our goal is with the help of technology to continuously monitor data about heath no matter where it comes from – a racecourse, a chip that is sitting in the arm or from any other source. Sometimes you may train up for a marathon and thus you need more magnesium. You will be notified so on our app, and the subscription will automatically update the next delivery,” says Marc Lucas.

As for today, TakeDaily has more than 2,000 customers. In this connection Capnova investment promises bright future for the startup:

“It is very exciting to partner with Capnova. With this investment, we can further develop our technology and product, “says Marc Lucas.

When it comes to future plans, TakeDaily is planning to go further and develop blood testing system, that will tell more accurately the doses of the microelements a person should receive.

“Blood samples are the next product in the line in a premium edition.” says Marc Lucas.

When about six months ago My Doctor Board decided to replace Charlotte as a CEO, the immediate effect of this was so devastating that a heavy Scandinavian startup profile wrote a huge article. They criticized the management of the company and the decision of Christian W Jansson, the chairman. The article ended with an apology for their “inappropriate and unfortunate statements”.

Charlotta Tönsgård left the storm. She decided to take a break and was traveling abroad. Her friends have not forgotten Charlotta and were supporting her during this not the easiest period of her life.

“They felt they wanted to say something, mainly that everything will be fine again soon. I spent Cristmas, surrounded by nice people. What is more, I had a chance to think of some new ideas” – says Charotta to 8till5.se

In April, she began meeting with people who had heard of her ideas and were interested in them. One of these people was Lars Lindgren, the founder and the largest owner of the Global Warning Systems, that makes apps for safe traveling. As Charlotta states:

“After Christmas I did not want just to jump in any project. I was thinking properly during this spring what should be my the next step, and soon I arrived at the conclusion that I want to work with the companies that use front-edge technology to make our lives better. According to Charlotte, she is planning to get back to work this fall.

“I have not decided yet whether I should start something on my own or take an assignment in an existing company. Do not think I will not be working full-time boards. It would probably have been too early at this time”.

Fooducer is the largest B2B food industry platform in Denmark. Its main idea is to make the exchange of product information easier and to enhance communication between the stakeholders. Thanks to its knowledge of the industry and its ability to ‘feel’ the community, Fooducer has found a unique niche, making them interesting for both: the tech and food industry.

These days the platform finalized a promising deal with Hemming Van, former owner of Daloon, private industry investor Capnova and Kasper Hulthin, co-founder of Podio and Peakon. All together, they have just invested three million kroner in Fooducer.

“We have created a unique product that can share and convey all necessary food data across the companies. It is suitable for both huge wholesalers and specialized small manufacturers. Now we have an opportunity to hire more professionals and we are ready to increase our presence in the region.” says co-founder and CEO Fie Hansen-Hoeck.

According to the company, the users of the platform usually save up to 50 percent on product administration and marketing.

“I know from my experience at Daloon how many resources are bound in food managing. It is a challenge for everyone in the industry to find a way to reduce time costs while providing customers with the information they need. With Fooducer you can save time and money on administration. That is a core challenge that we resolve.” says Hemming Van about his investment.

In 2.5 years, Fooducer has increased its platform users up to nearly 1200 Danish companies. The team of the company consists of experienced entrepreneurs with 35 years of experience in the food industry. What is more, these days the company is rather active in several European markets.

“Fooducer is an excellent example of howby saving time and money, technology can create new opportunities for industry players.” states Kasper Hulthin.

Proposales is a Swedish mostly self-financed startup, that consists of less than 10 employees. The main aim of the company is to revolutionize the digital quotes sphere in a similar way as Spotify in its time shook the distribution of music.

“Since the companies began to digitize quotes into pdfs, nothing important has happened in the last 20 years. We want to change this by creating a better sales flow for all involved, “says Joakim Green.

Unlike static quotes in pdf format, Proposale’s products allowe their users to make their own changes in the quotes. It’s all about creating, sending and monitoring quotes online with the emphasis on visual experiences on the mobile.

“Our aim is to reach those who really want to sell with feelings. As a customer, you do not want a quote that includes a number of item numbers that you need to consider. Thus we offer a great product experience through quotes on your mobile. In this way, the buyer can make business decisions easier, and the seller experience growth in sales,” states Joakim Green.

The Proposales are becoming more popular every day, and today it finds new users all over the world.

“There is definitely interest in what we do. Today we are work mainly with large companies, but our product also suits perfectly smaller business players.” says Joakim Green.

Clearhaus is a fintech startup from Aarhus, Denmark. Its main goal is to make online payments faster, easier, and more secure for online businesses. As Martin Walfisz, senior partner at Nordisk Film Games states:

“This is a long-term investment. We do not expect to get back our money in a short period of time.”

Avalache Studios – Who Are They?

Avalanche Studios, which was founded in 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg develops computer games for PC and game consoles Playstation and Xbox. Since that time, they have developed several popular action and hunting games: “Just Cause”, “Mad Max”, and “The Hunter”. The latter one attracted 7 million registered players. As for the fiscal year 2015/2016 the company had a turnover of SEK 247 million  (25.9 million euro) and showed an operating profit (EBIT) of SEK 4.6 million (0.5 million euro). The company has two major offices in Stockholm and New York and employs 270 employees.

Interesting to note, that Avalanche Studios is one of a few major Swedish game developers who have not yet appeared on the stock market. Neither Pim Holfve nor Martin Walfisz categorically say no to such a development in the future, but at the moment they do not see any serious reason to go public.

Future Plans

When it comes to future plans, Avalanche Studios has their own vision. Unlike most major companies in the gaming industry, Avalanche Studios is not planning to get into mobile game industry in the near future. While in the long run, the company is thinking that the Asian market can be their way to go further.

As Martin Walfisz states:

“Asia is something all game developers are watching. As for Avalanche Studios, we are planning to concentrate on the existing markets in that part of the world. However, how we will be doing it – this is something to decide later.”

In terms of revenue, during the first quarter, Mixi’s Monster Strike continued to dominate the revenue charts. Especially well the game is performing in Japan. While last year’s ‘troublemakers’: Pokémon Go and Super Mario Run showed signs of decline in terms of downloads and revenue. Type-Moon’s Fate/Grand Order, mobile game from Japan, increased its positions in revenue charts in the first quarter. Thus, it reached the second place on Google Play and appeared in top five on the App Store.

According to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence mobile game revenue from iOS and Google Play stores grew 53 percent in the first quarter and reached $11.9 billion. At the same time, Google Play revenues are growing faster than Apple’s with 83 percent versus 35 percent respectably.

As Ruika Lin, mobile insights analyst at Sensor Tower states:

“Apple app store revenue grew 35 percent to $6.6 billion from $4.9 billion in the first quarter, compared to the same period a year earlier. Google Play revenue grew 83 percent in Q1 to $5.3 billion from $2.9 billion a year earlier.”

On both stores in the first quarter of 2017 mobile game installs went as high as 15 percent compared with the same period of the previous year: to $8.8 billion from $7.6 billion.

In general, in terms of monetization, mobile games continue to dominate worldwide for all apps. As for the first quarter, they generated up to 80 percent of the gross revenue of Apple’s App Store. When it comes to Google Play the figures are even more impressive with about 91 percent of Google Play revenue.
