Flatfrog, a Lund-based multi-touch systems provider, has closed a €6.1 million funding round. Among the investors are Luxembourg-based Finvus Invest and the Danish venture capital firm Sunstone Capital, according to DI Digital.

Flatfrog has developed a technology that enables unmatched in-glass multi-touch performance for large and flat displays. The so-called “InGlass” technology offers market-leading touch or pen performance, optical clarity and contains features such as pressure detection.

The company successfully closed another financing round with existing investors earlier this spring, bringing in €4.3 million (42 million SEK). In order to finance the continued development of its multi-touch technology, Flatfrog recently closed a new capital issue of €6.1 million (60 million SEK), giving the company a value of roughly €21 million (208 million SEK).

Among the recent investors are Finvus Capital, Sunstone Capital and founder Christer Fåhraeus through his own company Fårö Capital.

Flatfrog’s current sales strategy is primarily geared towards the educational sector, with the long-term intention to replace classroom whiteboards and projectors with its touch-sensitive large screens.

“It is our existing market and the market in which we grow,” says Christer Fåhraeus to DI Digital

In the future however, Fåhraeus hopes that Flatfrog will be able to reach the boardrooms and meeting rooms, hence replacing traditional televisions and projectors.

Flatfrog was founded by Ola Wasswik and Fåhraues, and is headquartered in Lund. Since its inception, the company has received nearly half a billion SEK in venture capital.

Serial entrepreneur Fåhraues has previously been involved in a number of tech companies, including CellaVision, Anoto and Precise Biometrics.

The Lund-based company Bjorkstrom Robotics is set to streamline the construction industry with a new technology for AR-glasses.

The company’s CEO and founder, Kristofer Björkström, has together with his team of software developers, architects and construction industry experts developed the technology behind their new product, which will be called “Hägring”.

By attaching engineering skills to augmented reality (AR) glasses, they have created a product that layers whatever you want on top of your own vision, which creates a full 3D experience. Basically, the product makes it possible to upload architectural drawings and see them in front of you in full scale, making it easier to visualize construction projects in their real environment and size before they are built.

Hägring is believed to be a useful tool for architects, real estate developers and construction companies.

“We will initially focus on reaching out to real estate brokerages that can take advantage of the technology in their sales processes; and to architectural firms that can use it help clients better understand architectural models.” – Kristofer Björkström

A prototype will be demonstrated for several contractors and manufactures within the coming weeks. The actual product is expected to be released in the beginning of next year, with the possibility to preorder it in December 2016.

The team is based at the Ideon Science Park in Lund, and has been working on the product since 2015. The project has so far been backed by more than SEK 200 000 (20 000 €) from Almi and Vinnova, according to 8till5.

Digital newsroom provider MyNews receives its first investment and prepares to launch the service Mynewsflash in January 2017, according to DiDigital

MyNews index editorial news and make them accessible for companies so they can integrate relevant news stories into their systems. In other words, MyNews provides a customized newsfeed that makes it possible for companies to analyze and monitor what the media writes about in an efficient and easy way. The service is based on a subscription model, allowing the users to be notified as soon as a relevant article is published.

“We read everything from the major newspapers down to the smallest local newspaper. The user gets a notice immediately after an article is published” – Andreas Krohn, Product Manager MyNews.

Founded by Gustav Ekberg and Andreas Krohn, MyNews was a part of the Helsingborg-based Think’s accelerator program in 2015. Mynewsflash will be launched in Sweden in January 2017, with the goal to monitor and provide news from all across Europe to its users within 2 years.

In order to finance the launch and further developments, MyNews now receives a 1.2 million SEK (≈120 000 €) investment from Helsingborg-based Preventic Future (subsidiary of Preventic Group). Preventic Future aims to support companies in their early stage and help talented entrepreneurs to transform their innovative startups to successful companies. In addition to the investment capital, Preventic Future will also assist with their expertise within areas such as public relations, finance, law and marketing.

“It is all about getting the right help at the right time so you can take the next step forward, so that the company can develop” – Gustav Ekberg & Andreas Kohn

Animus Home has created a foundation that integrates your smart home devices, and is now on its way to launch its first product. Before it hits the market, the company welcomed Telavox founder Gustav Olsson as new partner and advisor.

Animus Home is determined to “Give your home a heart” by offering a smart home solution that connects all smart devices in your home. Everything from connected lamps to televisions and speakers can be controlled by the same app, giving the user full accessibility to the modern home, which may have been built by companies like New Home Construction.

What started as a mere concept in 2014, Animus Home has grown to become a young startup with the means to revolutionize the smart home industry. The development of hardware and software has taken two and a half years and was funded by the founders themselves, all engineers from Lund University. Earlier this spring, they received a 500 000 SEK (50 000 €) investment from a crowdfunding campaign

As Animus Home will take the next step by delivering their first units to the market, Gustav Olsson joins the company by investing roughly a million SEK (100 000 €). Gustav Olsson is one of the founders of the Malmö-based telephone operator Telavox, which has experienced an impressive growth during the last years.

“With Gustav Olsson joining the company and investing both capital and expertise confirms that we have created a product that the smart home industry lacks. He brings extensive experience in how to go from a successful startup to a stable and established company” – Co-Founder Fidan Bytyqi

The smart home solution is expected to be easy and effective to use and will even work without Internet connectivity. For privacy reasons, Animus Home will not use the cloud to store information. Instead, all personal data will be stored locally in your home.

The database service company Neo Technology, with roots from Malmö, recently received 300 million SEK (30 million €) through a financing round where Hexagon’s CEO Ola Rollén was the major investor, reports DI Digital.

Neo Technology is the creator of Neo4j, the world’s leading graph database that allows you to model, store and query your data in a form of a graph. Basically, it helps companies to manage large amounts of information in an easy and fast way.

Headquartered in San Mateo, Silicon Valley, with their development office still in Malmö, Neo Technology has latterly been praised as one of Sweden’s startup success stories. With customers like Walmart, UBS, Adidas and Lufthansa, it is not hard to understand why.

According to DI Digital, Ola Rollén’s monetary entry in the financing round would also mean that he would take a more active role by joining the board, with the key objective to increase sales and make way for a possible IPO in the future. However, with Rollén released from custody, but still being under investigation by Norwegian authorities for insider trading (unrelated to Hexagon), it seems that these plans are now on hold.

Neo Technology has confirmed that a financing round has been completed with a number of investors involved, including Ola Rollén through his company Greenbridge Partners. They have not, however, chosen to comment on Rollén’s insider accusation and how that might affect their future operations.

The capital raised will help finance the expansion of Neo Technology’s sales efforts as well as recruit more developers and programmers, many of whom will be based in Malmö. It will also open up opportunities to acquire small tech-companies, which will strengthen the company’s position and secure further growth.

If everything goes as one can hope, we will be able to see a young Swedish tech-startup transform itself to a established player on a major US stock exchange in the near future!

She is now on her way to help build an even better startup community in southern Sweden by joining the Board of Malmö Startups.

Founded in 2014, Malmö Startups is a grassroots organization that aims to unite and enrich the startup community in southern Sweden. By hosting events and bringing aspiring entrepreneurs together, Malmö Startups helps the community to grow towards it’s full potential.

Their biggest event Startup Live! brings together over 400 community members and takes place once every year.

A part from Charlotta Tönsgård, the Board will welcome two more members: Sarah Wittbom, CEO at Nordic E-commerce Knowledge and Karsten Deppert, entrepreneur and owner of Contentor, Mindpark and E-commerce Park (and also founder of this site). All of them are ambitious and recognized talents within the startup community in southern Sweden and will certainly contribute greatly to the operations of Malmö Startups.

Charlotta has received extra attention since Malmö-based Min Doktor became the first investment by EQT Ventures in Sweden. DI Digital reports that the financing round successfully raised 55 million SEK (5,8 million €), with EQT being the single largest investor. Min Doktor is speeding up the digitization of Swedish health care by providing doctor consultations and other health care services online.

We congratulate Malmö Startups with their impressive recruitment and are looking forward to seeing what they will plan for the future!

Startup entrepreneur Zakaria Hersi is organizing tech events in the so-called segregated parts of Sweden through the platform Orten.io. With a successful event in Tensta, Stockholm just a couple of weeks ago, Orten.io is now on its way to Rosengård in Malmö.

The goal with the events is to introduce tech entrepreneurship and creative thinking to the segregated and multicultural parts of Sweden that are generally known in media as “No-Go-Zones”. The initiative is without doubt very good and needed, as it will boost further integration and diversity in the Swedish startup community.

Orten.io seeks to inspire people from different backgrounds to meet and cooperate within tech entrepreneurship. The event in Rosengård will include several startup founders, innovators and investors as speakers, who will motivate and engage with the local community as well as focus on finding promising talents.

“The idea is that both worlds should inspire and learn from each other. The entrepreneurs will talk about their journey, but also try to find talents that want to venture into the tech world,” – Zakaria Hersi, Organizer.

After the events, selected students will be given the chance to join “Orten Academy” for a 12-week immersive coding program, which will be followed by internships in tech companies. Orten.io is truly translating their vision into reality.

While Malmö is on the rise of becoming an innovative powerhouse, it is also one of Scandinavia’s most diverse and multicultural cities, which makes the event in Rosengård particularly interesting and relevant.

The event is scheduled to take place the 27th of October, 17:00 with registration now available at orten-rosengard.confetti.events. The third and final event will be in Bergsjön, Göteborg.

Uniti is bound to reinvent the automobile through its high-tech, sustainable and socially responsible city car. They are now in the process of bringing in 500,000€ through the online crowdfunding platform FundedByMe.

Uniti started as an open innovation research project at Lund University and has grown to a workforce exceeding 20 people. The idea is simple; cars of today are oversized and overpowered for urban transportation, while also causing several problems for the environment and for our health. By building a futuristic car based on electric means alone, city mobility can be achieved in both a sustainable and efficient way; enough said!

Team Unity is determined to realize their dream of building a fully electric city car for the next generation and has launched a crowdfunding campaign a couple of weeks ago to get the necessary financing.

The goal with the financing round is to bring in 500,000 € for a 5,10% ownership of the company, giving Uniti a post-money value of 9,800,000 €. The share price is set to 10€ and the minimum investment is 500€. Company as well as individual investments are welcomed.

So far, the interest has been very high. As of October 16th, 370 investors have reserved stocks, making the campaign oversubscribed with 52%, pretty impressive! And there is still over 30 more days left until the end of campaign.

“With your help, we can finish building our prototype by late 2017, which will set us up for the funding we will need to progress to the production- and distribution phase” – CEO Lewis Horne.

The campaign will close its round November 19, 2016. Is it possible that the campaign will be oversubscribed two times and reach a whopping 1 million € in funding?
