Swedish Tech Weekly reports that based on the Swedish public company data, that would break with last year’s less positive trend.
Human Bytes and WARD 24|7, both Copenhagen based companies, have joined forces in a strategic partnership to introduce life-saving AI-based technology to the Nordic healthcare sector. The collaboration aims to implement continuous monitoring of vital signs, powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), as an integral part of patient care in the region.

“We are on a mission! A mission to change the way patients in hospitals are monitored. We want to scale-up and include the entire European continent and the US – and beyond. For this to happen, we need the best strategic partners, possible. For this reason, we are extremely happy to be partnering with Human Bytes in the Nordics, so we can take our state-of-the-art, AI enabled, digital clinical support system to the world”. says Betina Langemark, CEO at Ward 24|7.

The AI solutions provided by WARD 24|7 excel in the early detection of critical complications, enabling prompt interventions and improving patient outcomes while reducing the burden on healthcare personnel.

Currently, hospitals rely on sporadic spot monitoring of vital signs, which is time-consuming and may not provide timely warnings between assessments. WARD 24|7’s AI-based solution offers continuous monitoring with meaningful and relevant alarms, revolutionizing patient care.

“Ward 24|7 is one of the most innovative and market-ready solutions coming out of the Danish MedTech community. For this reason, Ward 24|7 is a perfect addition to our portfolio of patient monitoring and AI-solutions. It tabs directly into a very urgent issue across the Nordic health care-sectors of reducing the workload for nurses and giving instant and meaningful data to the doctors to improve patient care, overall”, says Ulrik Juul Rokkedal Therkildsen, CEO at Human Bytes.

With a focus on reducing nurse workload and providing instant, valuable data to doctors, this partnership between Human Bytes and WARD 24|7 addresses the urgent need for efficient and effective healthcare solutions in the Nordic region. The goal is to optimize operations, enhance patient care, and expand the reach of AI-enabled digital clinical support systems beyond the Nordics.

Saveggy, a Sweden-based startup, has developed a groundbreaking technology that can extend the shelf life of fresh cucumbers by protecting them from dehydration, oxidation, and microorganisms. The technology involves spraying an edible and fossil-free material onto the cucumbers made from natural and food-grade ingredients.

Recently Saveggy has received a 5 million SEK grant from the EU organization Eureka to expand the concept to other fruits and vegetables. The grant will allow the company to collaborate with Portugal’s Arborea Bio Foods and Iceland’s Thorverk to develop its third-generation coating for the protection of other fresh foods.

“I’m thrilled that we will now have the chance to develop the third generation of our coating. Our technology has the potential to revolutionize logistics chains and handling of fruit and vegetables in Europe. Our aim is to protect fresh foods that currently have no protection, thereby significantly extending their shelf life,” says Vahid Sohrabpour, CEO of Saveggy and one of the founders.

The treated cucumbers will be available next year through collaborations with the ICA supermarket chain and Odlarlaget producer group.

We recently wrote about Bintel’s latest invest round. Now they are in the news again. Their innovation project “Smart waste bins” has successfully achieved its goals, marking a new era for waste management. The 18-month pilot project was a collaboration between SSAM, Bintel and Prezero, funded by the EU program UIA within the framework of Växjö municipality’s innovation project Diaccess.

“The results from the project open up new opportunities to develop the collection from the environmental houses when, from the next turn of the year, the municipalities will also be responsible for recycling materials from all households. With Bintel’s technology, we get new tools to continue our journey up the waste ladder by, together with our customers, increasing recycling and reducing combustible residual waste,”

summarizes Florim Albborn, CEO of SSAM.

The project involved connecting 1,400 waste bins in the environmental rooms of multi-family houses and businesses in Växjö through Wexnet’s LORA network. The waste bins were fitted with Bintel level sensors to collect data. The project’s goals were to optimize existing routes by skipping emptying where possible, making structural changes in the environmental rooms, and testing demand-controlled emptying based on data from each environmental room. The results showed that the AI technology used in the project works effectively in real operations, and the need for collection decreased more than expected, leading to increased efficiency and reduced waste. The success of the project has been attributed to collaboration among stakeholders, with valuable input from drivers at PreZero.

The goal of the project is to improve waste sorting and accelerate the circular transition, ultimately leading to a reduction in the amount of waste sent to incineration. Additionally, the project aligns with the UN’s Agenda 2030 and can help companies achieve their sustainability goals. The project’s success has generated interest from the industry, and the AI technologies scalability bodes well for the future.

Skåne-based impact startup Bintel has successfully closed a new investment round of €1.25 million (SEK 14 million) to expand their smart digital solutions for the waste industry, with investors including Almi Invest Greentech and EIT (European Institute for Innovation and Technology)

“What we’re seeing now is great – our solution has a very clear value proposition and delivers a quick return on investment to our customers. That, together with macro events, means that we are now handling just over a million [SEK] per month in incoming orders. It is great that both existing and new investors believe in us and what we do. We are now moving forward and aim to reach a cash flow positive position by summer and then take the next step in our growth journey”,
says Michael Wictor, CEO at Bintel

One of the biggest costs in waste management is handling residual waste, and Bintel’s solution helps customers achieve better source sorting through data analysis, reducing residual waste and operating costs while promoting environmental sustainability. The company is experiencing a surge in demand due to increased emission rights costs and stricter industry regulations.

The investment from Almi Invest Greentech (one of Bintel’s investors since 2021) and EIT highlights the growing interest and support for sustainable and environmentally responsible practices within the waste industry. Bintel’s innovative technology and commitment to sustainability align with the goals of both investors, making this partnership a strategic move towards a greener future.

A Danish e-health app, Minplan, that works with severe mental crises, has launched in Ireland. It is aiming to revolutionizing the way individuals can manage their mental health.

The Minplan App which provides a safety plan for individuals experiencing severe mental health, has been installed by over 50,000 people in Denmark and Norway. The app is now available in Ireland to address the country’s high suicide rates, particularly among men, where mental illness, alcohol consumption, and unemployment are significant risk factors, and can also contribute to stress in people’s life, and that’s why many decide to use products like the thc Delta 9 gummies that are perfect for making people feel better.

To celebrate the successful launch, the app is holding an art challenge on social media, encouraging users to express themselves through art while raising awareness and fighting stigma. The app offers users the ability to link warning signs to coping strategies, rate moods, and access emergency contact information. This new tool has the potential to empower individuals and provide them with a personalized approach to managing their mental and physical health and the use of resources from sites like https://www.straight.com/guides/health/ can help a lot in this area. In my own life, the importance of mental health awareness has become clear. The knowledge I acquired from the https://www.commodious.co.uk/mental-health-awareness course was fundamental in shaping my understanding. With this newfound awareness, I’ve been better equipped to navigate my own mental health and be a supportive presence for others.

The challenge is open to everyone and runs until May, aiming to raise awareness and support individuals facing mental health crises. By offering this self-help tool, Minplan aims to provide a resource for those who do not seek professional help.

“Denmark has some of the Nordic countries’ most recognized, innovative and international life science, tech and IT companies – just as you also have an extremely mature entrepreneurial environment. These special skills – combined with several budding startups within e.g. digital health – make Denmark an obvious market for us. Although we know that the competition is great, we believe that our expertise and our special entrepreneurial approach enable us to take up the fight to be the ones who help create the next Danish life science unicorn ”,
says Partner Pekka Simula about the foundation’s ambitions in Denmark.

The Innovestor Life Science fund, worth nearly DKK 700 million (€90 million), is a valuable source of support for startups that are struggling to secure investment and venture capital in 2023. Unlike many other venture capital funds that have limited access to capital, the Innovestor Life Science fund is ready to invest in promising prospects. This venture capital fund is unique as it specializes in investing in early-stage startups within the digital health, biotech, and medtech sectors. Denmark has a wealth of untapped entrepreneurial potential, and the Innovestor Life Science fund is well-positioned to take advantage of this, as demonstrated by its investment in Ward 24|7.
