From my experience, Google and Microsoft have actually been very helpful. Google Campus in London was a game changer for that community. Microsoft sponsoring STHLM TECH Meetup is also a huge help to the community. I agree with the idea that generally speaking large corps are not to be confused with being part of the community, but it should be noted that certain big companies really do provide much support to the community.

It was seen as a problem – big companies are not helping startups or the startup community. They are not good enough costumers to startups products (even if most of the startups are B2B), they are not sponsoring events, they don’t run incubators and they don’t promote startups.

Of course they could do things in a bad way too, but the support by – and easy access to high level of command of – corporations would be great for the community.
