A recent analysis by EIFO reveals a significant decline in the number of business angels in Denmark, dropping from 934 in 2024 to 745 in 2025. The invested capital has also decreased, reflecting a broader sense of uncertainty among investors.

The decline in business angel activity is part of a broader market contraction, with uncertainty around AI and global economic conditions contributing to investor hesitation. However, Copenhagen’s strong software ecosystem and dedicated clusters continue to make it a natural fit for business angel investments.

“Business angels are where the Danish venture ecosystem begins. They provide the early-stage capital, expertise, and conviction that drive innovation and shape the companies that later attract institutional financing,”

said Lars Horsholt Jensen, Managing Director, Head of SME Startup & Innovation, EIFO

TechSavvy reported on this, where Kenneth Larsen, CEO of Keystones, a network for business angels, attributes this trend to underlying global uncertainties, despite stable economic conditions like controlled inflation and employment rates.

Kenneth Larsen acknowledges that the difficulty in distinguishing between AI startups, given the fast-paced nature of the industry, may have created a reluctance to invest in AI-driven ventures.

Despite the overall decline, Copenhagen remains a leader in startup investments. The Region Hovedstaden (Capital Region of Denmark), which includes Copenhagen, accounts for 63 percent of the total invested capital from business angels. Enterprise software is the dominant sector for both the number of investment rounds and the amount of capital invested, benefiting from Denmark’s strong national software ecosystem.

The report also highlights that the top 10% of business angels deploy nearly 60% of all invested capital, with the top 1% standing out further in terms of ticket size, founder experience, and graduation outcomes. For Copenhagen, this concentration of capital and expertise underscores its position as the primary hub for early-stage investments in Denmark.

Emil Eifrém, co-founder of Neo4j, the Malmö-founded graph database company, has recently had a longer interview with Breakit (in Swedish).

Neo4j is one of the unicorns that have emerged from this region, being latest valued at over € 2.3 billion (in 2024), and according to Emil Eifrém it has seen its annual recurring revenue grow a lot since then. He says in the article that Neo4js growth in the second quarter of this year is as high as it was all of 2025.

The company sees this strong growth at it is perfectly positioned to capitalize on the AI revolution with its GraphRAG technology, which enhances AI reliability by 80 percent, according to a company-funded study.

Emil says in the interview Neo4j is cash flow positive in its core operations, and that they are investing € 100 million over three years to expand their AI capabilities. Despite pressure from investors, Emil remains cautious about an IPO. He noted that the current market volatility makes being a public company particularly challenging.

For now, he is focused on growing the business, with a recent acquisition aimed at competing with Palantir in the AI space, where he sees a lot of potential for a Europe-focused alternative to Peter Thiels Palantir.

The journey has however not been without challenges, which Emil tells in the interview. Especially when an early prominent VC pulled out of a funding round early in the company’s life. Read the interview at Breakit (in Swedish).

Klang, the Helsingborg-based speech technology startup, has announced its expansion into Japan, marking the company’s first move outside of Europe.

The expansion has already shown remarkable results. Just a few days after launching in Japan, the country accounted for over 50% of Klang’s new daily users.

“A few days ago, 0% of our new users were from Japan. On Saturday it was 50.4%. More people signed up from Japan that day than from every other country we sell in, put together.”

said Andreas Argelius, CTO and co-founder Klang

The decision to enter the Japanese market aligns with Klang’s mission to close the performance gap between English and other languages in speech technology. By specializing in individual languages, Klang has been able to outperform general models, a strategy that began with its focus on Swedish.

At the current speed the startup estimates that in a couple of weeks total sign-ups from Japan might be higher then from all other countries. This growth highlights the demand for high-quality, localized speech technology and underscores Klang’s ability to deliver performance and trust in non-English languages.

Copenhagen-based Palette announced today it has secured a €3 million pre-seed funding round to develop its operating system for AI-native teams. The round was led by Ugly Duckling Ventures, with participation from Emblem, Acadian Ventures, and a group of angel investors.

Palette is building a platform where companies can integrate AI agents into their workflows without being locked into a single model or vendor. The technology allows teams to retain ownership of their context, workflows, and knowledge while maintaining the flexibility to switch between AI models as needed.

“We’ve worked with this founding team before, and it’s one of the strongest and most complete teams we’ve backed. They saw where AI work was heading before it was obvious. We believe Palette can become the operating layer for teams adopting AI across the whole company. That’s why we led the round.”

says Andreas Green Rasmussen, Partner at Ugly Duckling Ventures

The company’s first product, Palette Desktop, is already in use by its initial paying customers. These early adopters include teams in sales, operations, and product development, not just engineering. Users can deploy agents like Claude Code and Codex on their own files and folders, opting for cloud-based models when speed or cost efficiency is a priority, or local models for more sensitive tasks.

Palette’s broader OS, which includes a company-owned context library, shared skills, and seamless tool integration, is currently available to design partners. The platform aims to make AI adoption more responsible by ensuring that models remain interchangeable while company context remains durable.

“There will always be a newer model. The responsible way to adopt AI is to make the model swappable and make your company context durable. That’s what we’re building with Palette.”

says Brian Kyed, co-founder of Palette

Palette Desktop is available now for paying customers, and companies interested in the broader Palette OS can apply at palette.team. The new funding will be used to expand sales efforts and grow the team.
