Lund-based Nordic Forestry Automation (NFA) has closed a financing round totaling €4.3 million (SEK 48 million). The investment amount represents one of the largest ever in a forestry technology startup in Sweden. The investment is led by Navigare Ventures and Almi Invest Greentech.

In connection with this round, Almi Invest Greentech and LRF Ventures become new minority owners of NFA. All existing owners, Navigare Ventures, Sveaskog, Södra Skogsägarna, and Almi Invest Syd, are following up on their initial investments in NFA.

”The development of operator support and automation is moving rapidly forward across all vehicle types, and NFA is leading the way in forest machinery. Succeeding in physical AI requires a highly competent team, vast amounts of training data from real production environments, and long-term financing. In our vertical, we are now uniquely equipped with a strong position across all these pillars,”

says Lars Svensson, CEO and co-founder of NFA.

NFA’s proprietary software provides forestry machinery with the unique ability to measure trees in real time, continuously supporting the operator during execution. Today, NFA’s first product, an operator support system for thinning, is deployed on forestry machinery in real-world commercial operations across 7 markets on three continents. During 2025 and 2026, development and testing commenced for next-generation products, which include tree species identification, stem shape measurement, and semi-automation.

“Through its technology, NFA delivers direct customer value with clear efficiency gains in a large market. At the same time, the solution provides substantial climate benefits to forestry, with increased volume growth and better resource utilization of the harvested forest,”

says Erik Madeyski Bengtson, Investment Manager at Almi Invest GreenTech

LivingFilters, a Lund University spinout that develops AI-designed proteins for biosensors and filters, has raised €420 K (SEK 4.6 million) in a pre-seed funding round led by Turbine Capital, with participation from Filip Larsson, Johan Billgren, Skåne Ventures, and Peter Neubauer.

The company uses AI-designed protein binders to selectively detect and remove environmental contaminants (including PFAS, pharmaceutical residues and micropollutants) from water.

The funds will support a pilot project and the development of two initial products: biosensor probes for rapid contaminant detection and selective filter components for water treatment plants.

“This investment allows us to take the next step from breakthrough science to real-world impact. Together with our partners at the Chemistry department at Lund University, RecoLab and industry partners, we will validate our technology in operational water treatment environments and accelerate the path towards commercial deployment. Our ambition is to make precision-designed proteins a new tool in the global effort to secure clean water.”

says Mikaela Persson, co-founder and CEO at LivingFilters.

Current water treatment technologies (activated carbon, ozonation, membrane filtration) are all non-selective and energy-intensive. They are hard to reconfigure as the list of regulated contaminants grows. Two EU directives are now forcing action: the Drinking Water Directive requires PFAS monitoring from January 2026, and the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive mandates a fourth treatment step for pharmaceuticals and micropollutants, with large plants required to comply by 2033.

“Mandatory compliance deadlines have converted a diffuse environmental problem into a funded procurement market. LivingFilters combines unique expertise acquired through advanced training and research at the world-leading Baker Lab for computational protein design with cutting-edge research at Lund University, a technology with no direct commercial comparable in Europe, and a regulatory tailwind that does not depend on voluntary adoption.”

says Karin Edström, General Partner at Turbine Capital.

LivingFilters uses AI to design protein binders from scratch, creating molecular tools that bind to a single target contaminant with high precision. A new binder can be computationally initiated within hours and experimentally validated within a couple of weeks.

The platform builds on breakthroughs recognised by the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for computational protein design. LivingFilters’ co-founder and Chief Science Officer Amijai Saragovi conducted his postdoctoral research at the Baker Lab, Institute for Protein Design, University of Washington, the world’s leading group in computational protein design. He now leads his own protein design group at Kemicentrum, Lund University.

Cognibotics, A Lund-based deep-tech robotics startup, announced that they have been selected for €6.5 million in blended finance from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator under the Horizon Europe programme. The funding includes a €2.5 million grant and €4 million in equity financing.

The funding will support the next stage of development and industrialisation of HKM1800, Cognibotics’ robot platform for logistics and manufacturing. The breakthrough combines a new hybrid kinematic design with advanced motion control, making it possible to deliver delta-class speed with a 10 times larger workspace, while using around one-third less energy than traditional robots. Together with software for model-based motion control and powerful programming, HKM1800 is designed to reduce engineering effort, speed up commissioning, and make advanced automation easier to scale.

This makes HKM1800 a new class of industrial robot, offering quick installation and more than 2,000 picks per hour across a 10 square meter workspace, breaking the traditional speed–reach trade-off.

“This is an important validation of both our technology and our direction as a company. The project is not only about bringing HKM1800 to market, but also about advancing the software and automation approach behind it. Together, this gives us a strong platform for scaling in logistics and manufacturing.”

says Fredrik Malmgren, CEO of Cognibotics

Cognibotics has previously raised a bit more than € 9 million, from among others Fairpoint Capital, Newton, Tibia, Port-Monnaie, and LU Holding. The startups modular tech stack closes the gaps between existing industrial technologies while also providing new high-performance motion control, novel arm kinematics, a dynamic real-time software foundation, intuitive motion programming, and emerging motion intelligence.

Copenhagen-based fintech Franklin – the payment card built for e-commerce – closes a €1.6M (DKK 12 million) seed round led by True Collective to make AI the foundation of how e-commerce businesses manage their finances.

Franklin is the payment card built for e-commerce. Its cards are designed for high ad spend, so campaigns don’t stall mid-weekend or during Black Friday because of a low limit, and every euro an e-commerce spends on ads, software and operations earns 0.5% back, uncapped. On top of that, Franklin’s AI automatically fetches and matches receipts from Meta, Google, TikTok and the other tools merchants pay for – so bookkeeping runs on autopilot and the books close in no time.

“AI is one of the biggest game changers in modern business, and we’re building Franklin so our customers feel it directly in their everyday. We’re moving from finance tools that just show you numbers to AI agents that actually do the work for you. This round lets us reinvent the way our customers interact with their finances – AI is becoming the foundation for everything we do. We’ve come a long way in two years, but we’re just getting started.”

said Nikolaj Bomann Mertz, CEO & Co-founder, Franklin

More than 250 Danish companies, primarily e-commerce stores, already run on Franklin, growth has been remarkable, and the company has made a strong start in the Dutch market.

“We’re at the start of a fundamental shift in how e-commerce runs its finances. Soon AI agents will do the work for them, automatically and responsibly. Franklin is uniquely positioned to become the market leader for European e-commerce – and the potential is enormous. That’s why we’re all in.”

said Rolf Pedersen, True Collective

Valkyr Defense Systems, a Swedish defense technology startup, has raised approximately €360,000 (SEK 4 million) in its first external funding round, accelerating the development of its autonomous anti-drone systems for last-line defense. The investment, nearly fully subscribed, will enable rapid product development and deeper collaboration with industry partners, positioning Valkyr as a key player in Europe’s growing defense innovation sector.

Valkyr specializes in cost-effective, modular, and autonomous defense systems, leveraging commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology to fast-track production.
Its flagship product, HILDR, is a Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) defense system integrated with the TACTIX information architecture. Valkyr’s approach combines engineering expertise, total defense experience, and a culture of simplicity and speed, focusing on practical innovation, Swedish manufacturing, and scalable solutions for both military and civilian applications.

The funding round includes participation from I Love Lund, Danish business angels from the Keystones network, and Swedish national investors, reflecting strong confidence in Valkyr’s ability to deliver rapid, effective solutions in a high-stakes sector.

“We and our co-investment partners have strong confidence in Valkyr’s future, as their proven business team can rapidly and effectively develop product lines to meet complex and evolving needs while delivering under tight deadlines. We see expanded defense innovation development originating from Lund and regionally in our vicinity, including Denmark. With our investment, we contribute to a rapid transformation of defense capabilities to ultimately safeguard a sustainable democratic society.”

says Björn Englund at I Love Lund

Valkyr emerged from Ideon Science Park’s defense accelerator, Amyna, and is deeply rooted in Lund’s expanding defense ecosystem. The company’s mission aligns with the region’s push for faster adaptation processes and reduced barriers between authorities, industry, and research.

“For us at Valkyr, it feels very positive to welcome I Love Lund as an investor. Through our participation in Ideon’s defense accelerator, Amyna, and our strong roots in Lund, there is a natural connection between our operations. We look forward to getting to know the network, sharing experiences, and having inspiring conversations with people who are passionate about innovation, entrepreneurship, and the region’s development.”

Lightbringer, the Malmö-based AI-powered legal technology company transforming how startups and SMEs secure patents, has raised €8.6 million ($10 million) in Series A funding.

The round was co-led by London-based 6 Degrees Capital and Amsterdam-based Newion, alongside existing investors Luminar Ventures and Alliance VC. Thomas Olszewski, Partner at 6 Degrees Capital, and Dorus Olgers, Partner at Newion, have joined the Lightbringer board.

‍In Q2 2026, the company reported 300% revenue growth year-over-year following its rapid customer adoption across Europe. To build on this success, Lightbringer will use the funding to fuel its expansion into the U.S., while enabling further development of its AI-powered patent platform for growing deep tech companies. The U.S. represents the world’s largest and most competitive market for intellectual property (IP), and a key priority for Lightbringer’s next stage of growth. Its Service as Software (SaS) offering combines IP strategy, patent filing, and portfolio management all in one place, automating processes that have traditionally relied on costly and time-consuming work by external law firms.

“Protecting an invention still means weeks of back-and-forth with a law firm, unpredictable hourly billing, and surprise invoices. Most AI in this space just makes lawyers slightly faster. We built something different: an AI-native platform that handles the patent process directly for technology companies. Powerful agentic models do the work, with expert attorneys stepping in where judgment matters.”

says Dominic Davies, CEO and co-founder

‍Until now, AI software in the patent sector has focused on building better tools for lawyers – streamlining workflows, reducing admin, and cutting billable hours at the margins. Lightbringer takes a fundamentally different approach. It is an AI platform designed to replace existing patent firms, not assist them.

“We are building the best patent service platform in the world from first principles with focus on helping tech company leaders and innovators protect their technology and business opportunities.”

says Markus Andreasson, CTO and co-founder

‍Founded in 2023, Lightbringer combines agentic AI with the oversight of expert patent lawyers, reducing typical patent filing timelines from two months to just a couple of days, cutting costs by around 50% through its fixed-price subscription model. Since its rollout in 2024, Lightbringer has helped more than 200 deep tech companies, across 17 countries, file and manage their patents globally including: critical infrastructure hardware specialist TERASi, defense drone component company ARCTIC RAVN, quantum sensing technology developer DIASENSE, and Cler, the Swedish clean-air technology company.

As of 2025, the global IP legal services market is valued at approximately €14.8 billion, yet many innovative companies still fail to capture and protect the full value of their IP due to slow, expensive, and inaccessible patent processes. This outdated model – heavily reliant on manual collaboration between technical teams and legal specialists – creates significant barriers between innovation and business protection. Compounding this issue, there is a global shortage of patent lawyers working across highly specialized technical fields – such as quantum computing, novel materials, or advanced AI architectures – and non-technical patent lawyers often struggle to fully grasp the nuances of the inventions they are being asked to protect.

For technology companies operating in highly competitive sectors, these inefficiencies can have far-reaching consequences. Valuable inventions may remain unprotected resulting in lost opportunities to attract investment, secure market share, and maximize growth. In many cases, the greatest risk is not the cost of filing patents, but the strategic IP that is never protected in the first place. Lightbringer’s AI, by contrast, can rapidly develop deep domain expertise in fields with knowledge deficits, making it well-suited to understanding and articulating the technical substance of a patent application.
