In a strategic move to bolster its support for the green transition of businesses, Danske Bank has announced a new partnership with Copenhagen based startup EIVEE, who is specializing in calculating companies’ CO2 footprints. This collaboration aims to facilitate Danske Bank’s corporate clients in their efforts to comply with upcoming EU sustainability requirements and to support CO2-reduction initiatives with financing solutions.

As businesses grapple with the intensifying demands of EU’s impending sustainability legislation, which will not only affect large publicly traded companies but also their suppliers through heightened sustainability data requirements, Danske Bank’s partnership with EIVEE emerges as a timely solution. This initiative is set to ease the significant pressure many businesses face in meeting these requirements by providing them with a tool to streamline their climate reporting processes.

“Our platform ensures full transparency in all data sources and calculations, which is crucial as ESG data will soon be as important as financial figures for companies. This allows businesses to confidently share their climate accounts from our platform with customers, investors, authorities, and other stakeholders,”

said Peter Schack, CEO of EIVEE

EIVEE’s platform aids companies in obtaining a detailed overview of their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by collecting, cleaning, and categorizing data from relevant company data sources. This process results in highly accurate calculations down to the product level, covering direct emissions from company-owned assets, indirect emissions from purchased energy, and all other indirect emissions occurring in the value chain, such as supplier purchases, business travel, and investments.

“The enhanced requirements for sustainability reporting are creating a great deal of pressure on many of our customers. It’s a complex task to gain an overview of a company’s total CO2 footprint, which is why we’ve entered into a partnership with EIVEE. They can assist our customers with both the collection and reporting of CO2 data,”

explains Niels-Bang Hansen, Danske Bank’s Head of Corporate Customers in Denmark

As part of the partnership, Danske Bank is offering its corporate clients access to EIVEE’s solution at favorable prices and terms. Moreover, the bank is prepared to review the financing of CO2-reduction projects that EIVEE’s solution identifies.

“Assisting our clients with their sustainable transformation plays a significant role at Danske Bank. All our business advisors have recently completed another training course on ESG, and we are ready to act as both a sparring partner and help with financing when our clients wish to take the next step towards a more sustainable direction,”

Niels Bang-Hansen added

This collaboration between Danske Bank and EIVEE represents a forward-thinking approach to addressing the complex challenges of climate reporting and sustainability efforts, paving the way for a greener future in the business sector.

Human Bytes and WARD 24|7, both Copenhagen based companies, have joined forces in a strategic partnership to introduce life-saving AI-based technology to the Nordic healthcare sector. The collaboration aims to implement continuous monitoring of vital signs, powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), as an integral part of patient care in the region.

“We are on a mission! A mission to change the way patients in hospitals are monitored. We want to scale-up and include the entire European continent and the US – and beyond. For this to happen, we need the best strategic partners, possible. For this reason, we are extremely happy to be partnering with Human Bytes in the Nordics, so we can take our state-of-the-art, AI enabled, digital clinical support system to the world”. says Betina Langemark, CEO at Ward 24|7.

The AI solutions provided by WARD 24|7 excel in the early detection of critical complications, enabling prompt interventions and improving patient outcomes while reducing the burden on healthcare personnel.

Currently, hospitals rely on sporadic spot monitoring of vital signs, which is time-consuming and may not provide timely warnings between assessments. WARD 24|7’s AI-based solution offers continuous monitoring with meaningful and relevant alarms, revolutionizing patient care.

“Ward 24|7 is one of the most innovative and market-ready solutions coming out of the Danish MedTech community. For this reason, Ward 24|7 is a perfect addition to our portfolio of patient monitoring and AI-solutions. It tabs directly into a very urgent issue across the Nordic health care-sectors of reducing the workload for nurses and giving instant and meaningful data to the doctors to improve patient care, overall”, says Ulrik Juul Rokkedal Therkildsen, CEO at Human Bytes.

With a focus on reducing nurse workload and providing instant, valuable data to doctors, this partnership between Human Bytes and WARD 24|7 addresses the urgent need for efficient and effective healthcare solutions in the Nordic region. The goal is to optimize operations, enhance patient care, and expand the reach of AI-enabled digital clinical support systems beyond the Nordics.

This article is a series of posts published by the Danish Tech Startups Association on their LinkedIn page. Their aim is to build a better tomorrow with startups and founders. You can read more about them here.

Kasper and Martin of Drivi are here to change the status quo!

We chatted with Kasper Tikjøb and Martin Haslund Johansson who were originally the investors of Drivi but now have gone on to become its CTO and CEO, respectively.

Kasper is a serial entrepreneur and investor and is also a founder of Tikweb. He initially invested in Drivi and when its original co-founders left the company, he took on the helm of its Chief Technology Officer.

Martin is also a serial entrepreneur, investor and consultant who initially invested in Drivi and took the charge of its CEO after the original co-founders left.

One of the co-founders left Drivi a couple of years ago while the other left it prior to this summer. Kasper and Martin have decided to keep running Drivi because in their own words,

“We make a difference with what we do and that is extremely important for us. We want to make the driving schools in Denmark the most modern and innovative driving school system in the world. And digitising driving schools can help us do that”.

As Drivi has a very niche customer segment, the sum of customers in the segment is very finite. Also, they operate in a highly-regulated market which makes it a bit challenging as well.

However, Drivi is a product-driven company. And a lot of automation helps them execute their day-to-day tasks. When it comes to the team of Drivi, other than Martin as its CEO and Kasper as its CTO, they also have the support of developers from Tikweb, Kasper’s company. Drivi is fully bootstrapped as of now. But might reach out to investors in the future.

Moving on to work-life balance. Both Kapser and Martin emphasise that having an understanding family is key to building a business that succeeds.

“Sometimes you just have to work but other times you get the flexibility which you don’t get in a 9-5 job. So, it’s not necessarily all bad or good. Entrepreneurship is a way of life. It’s up to your mindset to make it either good or bad.”

Martin elaborates

How can you compete against your own country?!

You can’t!

Scaling a company that digitises driving schools in Denmark has its unique set of challenges that Kasper and Martin cover in the second part of Drivi’s story.

Drivi is a learning management system for driving schools. It is a complete administrative software system for driving schools that supports their regulatory needs and helps them to:

automate administration,

smoothen student interaction,

manage lesson plans and appointments,

expand their businesses

And much more!

However, when you are scaling a company that must work in close coordination with the state, municipalities and unions, you are bound to rely on government data and APIs. But what if your own government is not ready to give you access to those data and APIs because they want to build a state-controlled monopoly?

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what might happen with Drivi.

According to Kasper and Martin, Kommunernes Landsforening (KL), the union that is the association of all the municipalities in Denmark, wants to build a state-controlled competitor to Drivi.

“Just like they build Aula to compete with Famly. The Danish government is once again competing against its own homegrown company. Instead of cooperating with Drivi, helping us integrate with the system and helping us boost innovation at both the national and local level and ultimately improve driving experience across Denmark”
laments Kasper

Kasper and Martin believe that it would be amazing to have an API-first driven approach like Estonia’s. According to them, an open and transparent Køreprovebooking’s interface that will collaborate with Drivi will save the government 80 million DKK that they want to spend on building a state-controlled app.

In the beginning of 2022, Drivi along with a few other members of the Association tried to reach out to the state and resolve the issue of open APIs but to no avail.

“It really saddens us that despite having Drivi, which is making driving learning experiences smoother and better for teachers, students and driving schools and could be made better with public procurement, the state is not ready to meet us in the middle. And want to drive us out by building our competition”.
Martin says

Other than the Danish state and KL, none of Drivi’s private competitors are as much integrated with the municipality and the police as Drivi has integrated.

“We would have been much further if Denmark were willing to cooperate with us, if Køreprovebooking were willing to share their APIs or allow us access to them, which KL is blocking”.
Kasper thinks

Hence, in the next 6-12 month, Kasper and Martin are focussed on achieving the integration with the Danish transportation and driver’s tests authorities and the access to the Køreprovebooking’s APIs. Additionally, they will be implementing a new invoicing system to control the entire money flow for driving schools.

Why is the Danish state not supportive of its own start-ups driving innovation?

In 5 years, Kasper and Martin would like to expand Drivi internationally. They would like Drivi to be the gold standard of safety for driving schools and getting a DL.

And Denmark can help a lot with that! It’d be great once the state would start collaborating with Drivi as that would help them build a safe and world-class driving school experience and driving school system for students and teachers alike.

Accelerating the same system to the governmental levels, a model that is easy to implement, used with accountability all the way through and exporting it to other countries would be beneficial for not only Drivi but for Denmark as well.

However, given the difficulties that Drivi is facing to scale in Denmark, Kasper and Martin are looking into other markets.

It really baffles Kasper, Martin and us that the state doesn’t understand that open APIs are in their and the public’s interest. And Denmark won’t be the first country in the world whose state-controlled data is run by open APIs. Estonia is one of them.

Nevertheless, there are some good aspects of scaling a company in Denmark. A digitally advanced public and private sector helped Drivi digitalize the driving learning experience easily. Great infrastructure, good internet connectivity and mobile network also make it easier for students to access Drivi’s servers while learning how to drive.

Just that instead of competing against their own homegrown start-up, Denmark must collaborate with them to build and scale a world-class driving school system.

Kasper and Martin ended the conversation with many sensible recommendations to aspiring entrepreneurs:

1. To validate your ideas in the precise, correct user segments. Otherwise, you won’t know whether your customers are really willing to pay for your service.

2. To get investments early enough, the faster you can validate your investments, the better it is for you to get to the next rounds needed to grow your business.

3. To hire competent, professional and experienced people. Do not hire an XYZ or a friend or a family member because they rub well.

4. Lest, you don’t have the resources to hire experienced professionals, prefer going no-code/low-code where you’ll have more control rather than depending on a single person.

5. Do a Nike!

We thank Kasper and Martin for an illuminating conversation and wish you both the very best in scaling in Denmark and beyond! We support your journey and will continue amplifying your voices in our conversations with the politicians.

To address the issue of Carbon emissions, the funds will be used to accelerate the platform’s growth for both cost reduction and carbon removal reporting. The SEED capital will also help in the growth of Scandinavia’s customer base.

“All companies will need to work with their emission footprint. The largest part of the footprint is typically found within the supply chain where existing solutions for carbon accounting provide little visibility and neither accurate nor useful information. We think the EIVEE way is the only way. They start with getting their customers’ data straight so they can both optimize bottom line and work actively with their carbon footprint. So we love the product, the market and most importantly the super strong team with many years of combined procurement and sustainability experience.” says General Partner in SEED Capital, Niels Vejrup Carlsen

Founded in 2020, the startup offers a tech platform for its two products, Strategic Procurement and Sustainable Procurement built for companies and organizations around the world. The platform identifies improvement opportunities and provides solutions that enable full traceability of the company’s carbon footprint across the value chain.

Meet Vlad Gidea, co-founder of an audio platform to help companies & employees create insightful audio content for internal communication, culture development & knowledge sharing, and without the need of any expensive equipment or audio experts, all in one Dive.fm App!

Could you share a little about your background?

I have been working with Danish startups for the last 10 years and have worked for some of my startups as a product analyst. While I was working, I was still looking for ways to improve product retention in terms of usability. Eventually, I understood that my skills were good in the business development area as well. So I began helping the students at IT University of Copenhagen build their businesses. The students would have a rough idea, that they would like to turn into a startup. And at the same time, with my product background and my basic business background, I would help those young entrepreneurs. This has been my role for the past five years in my professional career.

Can you tell us briefly about the startup you have founded and how did you come up with the idea Dive.fm?

It was at the beginning of the corona pandemic, I was talking to some of my friends who work at big companies, and asked a question if they use the internet to communicate. At the end of the day, they still use internal communication tools like Slack or Yammer to communicate. We realized that the Internet remains a very old tool. Many organizations depend on tools that consumers used many years ago, like blogs and Web 2.0. So we came up with the idea of how could we bring the benefits of audio as a medium that provides more context to the communication and how could we bring audio into the organizations. Also, we noted that everyone listened to podcasts and that they always wanted to have conversations and listen to meaningful conversations. Therefore, we thought of highlighting the benefits of audio as a means of communication. We had a brainstorming session on how to introduce the audio to the companies. This is how Dive.fm began.

What makes a Dive.fm special? Could you highlight the unique features to our readers?

In the first part of the year, we explored the problem in depth. We examined what makes good podcasts, and it was not just the quality of the audio, but it had more to do with the quality of the narrative. The best podcasters were great storytellers and they were very structured in their approach while still managing to make it look like the discussion was natural. We also noticed the majority of audio software is in fact built for musicians or audio engineers. We started creating a different kind of recording experience that can handle narratives and storytelling a little more than the audio recording experience. Then we thought, how do we combine the act of building a presentation with the act of recording the audio? And this led us to realize that presenters can prepare talking points and create a compelling story-driven narrative during the recording.

Dive.fm is not just a distribution platform, but one can publish high-quality audio to an entire organization and one can take notes and just consume audio. It is a very powerful content creation App, which allows employees to structure, the narrative of their recording, while they are recording the interview or while they’re recording the audio episode, they could just follow the question. Every time the user would tap the screen, we were already processing the audio, eliminating the noise, and segmented the recording into clips, making it easier to edit or re-arrange clips and publish.

We read that we can listen to the audio content while we are traveling or in the gym. So I found that way exciting, would you like to share with our readers how to use the Dive.fm app?

Let’s say we come from an old industry that is beginning to be digitized. I may not understand this topic. So, on the way to work, one can listen to episodes about how digitization is a good thing and how having automated processes can help your work. The app keeps everyone in the loop with company updates, new or other industry insights using audio as a medium. It makes you go to work more motivated kind of tackle the task than because you’re already in a mindset that is productive.

“We want to give companies a more engaging way to handle internal communications, it’s crucial for culture development and knowledge sharing – especially when you’re working remote or with new and disruptive industries,” says Vlad Gidea

What is your biggest challenge right now?

I think we’ve identified a very new category that’s emerging, and that’s the use of audio in companies in different ways. A number of young start-ups are also interested in this area. So I think we’ve seen the same audio technology revolution happening for consumers with things from the Clubhouse to Spotify, adopting podcasts, to even voice assistants like Siri and Alexa over gamers using the kind of discord for talking. And I believe it’s time to have a serious conversation about how businesses can use audio. And they also want to listen to the sound of change.

Who are your biggest competitors and how do you differentiate from them?

Some companies provide internet platforms that do a mix of multimedia. But these companies, provide the full range of services and, they do not concentrate on delivering a first mobile audio experience. This is where we come into play. We are the only company that allows employees to create content. Furthermore, we offer employees a tool that provides insights to the entire organization, which makes Dive.fm unique. It allows us to explore different kinds of content, based on creator, membership, kinds of angles. Think about the patriarchy, but a Patron for the voice, but again for the audio recordings.

How do you see your company developed, in the next few years?

At the moment, we are trying to launch our product and get feedback from our first users. But at the same time, we want to focus on onboarding a few paying customers, especially scaleups which are growing fast, and onboarding a lot of new employees. That’s where we believe we can deliver the highest value with our platform.
