Cylindo, a Copenhagen-based company that develops software for the furniture industry that includes furniture visualization tools for consumers, has raised € 940 000 (7 million DKK) in investment and is ready to grow its US market, reports TrendsOnline.

THE COMPANY

Two former classmates Lasse Krügermeier and Janus Jagd, with specialization in game development founded Cylindo in 2012. Since the time of creation Cylindo has come a long way, with particularly high growth during the past 6 months. Cylindo’s software now supports more than 1500 websites and shops, and among its recent customers are Norway’s largest furniture retailer Bohus and the German Bettenwelt.

Cylindo’s visualiation platform has three different levels:

Viewer – a 360-degree viewing tool

Utility builder – a feature that enables customers to see the results of different furniture combinations

Room planner – a feature that allows customers to see given piece of furniture in his own home

INVESTMENT

The lead investor in this round was Kongens Lyngby with contribution from Scale Capital, an investment fund in San Francisco, and LiteCap. Total investment round amounted to 7 million DKK (€ 940 000).

Lars Jensen, partner at Scale Capital, believes that Cylindo adds a great value to retail store environment with its multi-faceted technology and user-centered approach. He also sees an opportunity to make use of Cylindos visualization platform in several industries other than in the furniture industry.

“We invested in Cylindo because it is the right team and the right technology at the right time. The company supplies retailers and online sellers with the innovation they need to generate sales” says Lars Jensen.

Invested money will be allocated towards US expansion, in particular for hiring more sales people in Cylindo’s San Francisco office.

“We have seen a huge demand for our technology in the US market, and we have proven again and again that we can compete with the largest companies in the area such as Autodesk and Adobe despite the fact they have far more resources than we have” says Janus Jagd, CEO and co-founder of Cylindo.

Back in 2009 two former classmates Lasse Krügermeier and Janus Jagd started Cylindo, a company that provides interior design software that allows users to see how furniture would look like in their own apartments. Today, 5 years later the company is on the top of success wave! It has recently received funding from American venture funds Voivoda Ventures, Commerce VC, the Danish TradeShift CCO Christian Hjort, and a number of international businesses, reports TrendsOnline.

While the investment amount was not disclosed, the money will allow Cylindo to increase its growth pace. Some of the money will be used to expand the development team in Copenhagen. Right now the company is looking for a number of talented developers there.

Cylindo that has been self-financed up until now has also invited three strong Danish entrepreneurs to the company’s advisory board. The most prominent name in the board is David Helgason, co-founder and CEO of Unity Technologies. Danish CCO in TradeShift, Christian Hjort, and the founder of social networking service Memo Lane, Eric Lagier, are also going to be on the advisory board.

Financial resources from the US and international angels that also have experience in the furniture industry combined with a great team give Cylindo capacity to change global furniture business. Company’s current customers include American furniture chains, Turnstone and Steelcase, as well as Danish furniture chain Bolia.

A few days ago LoveMyHome, one of Accelerace participants, has launched furniture visualization platform under a new brand name – Cylindo, reports TrendsOnline. The ambition is to enhance e-commerce for the furniture industry with the help of gaming technology.

“The furniture market is a 330 billion dollar industry which is facing an uphill battle online. More than 70% of consumers research furniture online before they buy, but just 3-4% actually place the order on a website, a lot of those who decide to shop online are the ones are able to find discounts on websites like Raise. The biggest hurdle facing furniture e-commerce is the absence of a tactile experience online; we can help solve that problem with visualization so stunning you can virtually touch the products. Results from our current customers show an average of 3x increased cart size,” says company’s CEO Janus Jagd in company’s press release.

The past 5 years have witnessed an increase in online purchases. However, the furniture industry is still behind in this aspect and there is much potential in it if approached correctly. With the right furniture experts working on the kind of furniture you want, you can now UPGRADE YOUR KITCHEN CABINETS ON A BUDGET!

“In essence the furniture industry is where apparel was 10 years ago; they fixed e-commerce with better return policies. We are going to fix online furniture shopping with immersive software that provides the consumer with all the visual information they need to feel confident enough to transact online” says Janus Jagd.

The company has been co-creating together with some international retailers and manufacturers such as Fortune 500 company Steelcase and Danish Bolia to make its product even more appealing. The next 3 months promise to bring some new releases with industry leaders in both Scandinavia and the Americas. To explore shipping options, you can visit this link to their site.

“We have taken all the knowledge gained from LoveMyHome’s successful gamification of the online shopping experience, and refined it into business software that can be used both in-store and online. A solution that effectively bridges the online/offline gap that exist in the furniture industry,” shares Janus Jagd.
