Copenhagen-based fintech Franklin – the payment card built for e-commerce – closes a €1.6M (DKK 12 million) seed round led by True Collective to make AI the foundation of how e-commerce businesses manage their finances.

Franklin is the payment card built for e-commerce. Its cards are designed for high ad spend, so campaigns don’t stall mid-weekend or during Black Friday because of a low limit, and every euro an e-commerce spends on ads, software and operations earns 0.5% back, uncapped. On top of that, Franklin’s AI automatically fetches and matches receipts from Meta, Google, TikTok and the other tools merchants pay for – so bookkeeping runs on autopilot and the books close in no time.

“AI is one of the biggest game changers in modern business, and we’re building Franklin so our customers feel it directly in their everyday. We’re moving from finance tools that just show you numbers to AI agents that actually do the work for you. This round lets us reinvent the way our customers interact with their finances – AI is becoming the foundation for everything we do. We’ve come a long way in two years, but we’re just getting started.”

said Nikolaj Bomann Mertz, CEO & Co-founder, Franklin

More than 250 Danish companies, primarily e-commerce stores, already run on Franklin, growth has been remarkable, and the company has made a strong start in the Dutch market.

“We’re at the start of a fundamental shift in how e-commerce runs its finances. Soon AI agents will do the work for them, automatically and responsibly. Franklin is uniquely positioned to become the market leader for European e-commerce – and the potential is enormous. That’s why we’re all in.”

said Rolf Pedersen, True Collective

With this round, Franklin is going all in on agentic finance. Today, businesses manage their money in Franklin; the company’s vision is a near future where their AI agents do all the work – reconciling, categorizing and acting

“We’re bringing agentic finance to e-commerce – reinventing the way our customers interact with their finances through Franklin. AI is going to be the foundation for everything we do, and how our product works.”

Franklin, a rising star in the fintech sector, has successfully raised € 900K (6.6 million DKK) in a recent funding round. The investment, sourced from existing investors, angels, and family offices, is set to propel Franklin’s mission of developing a cutting-edge payment and finance platform tailored for e-commerce businesses.

Fueling Growth and Innovation

This fresh influx of capital will enable Franklin to expand its team, enhance its product offerings, and assist more e-commerce businesses in automating their financial operations. Since its launch less than a year ago, Franklin has made significant strides, achieving over €600,000 in annual recurring revenue (ARR) and growing its customer base to nearly 100, doubling its clientele since the end of 2024.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the trust from our investors – new and old. This funding allows us to double down on helping small and mid-sized e-commerce brands automate their finances and keep more of their money,”

says Nikolaj Bomann Mertz, CEO and Co-founder of Franklin

Franklin distinguishes itself with features such as 0.5% unlimited cashback on all card payments, automated receipt fetching from platforms like Google, Meta, TikTok, and various software purchases, as well as high spending limits of up to €1 million per customer.

“We’re building what we wish existed ourselves – a smarter way to manage payments and finances, purpose-built for e-commerce. We’ve built a strong foundation, but we’re just getting started,”

Franklin, a Danish fintech startup targeted at e-commerce businesses, unveils its solution today while announcing a strategic partnership with NIUM, an e-money institution and Visa principal member, which will provide financial services for Franklin’s customers.

Bank accounts, money transfers, cards, and loans are the foundation of any business. Still, many entrepreneurs – especially e-commerce businesses – have high demands for their partners and are frustrated with traditional “one-size-fits-all banks.” Additionally, e-commerce businesses are underrepresented among venture investments, making them even more reliant on their banking solutions to access capital, manage cash flow, etc. Franklin aims to challenge the status quo and believes the financial industry needs a fresh approach.

Franklin helps e-commerce businesses gain visibility into their finances and marketing, as well as automating manual tasks such as receipt management and reporting. The partnership with NIUM allows Franklin’s customers to get Visa cards dedicated to marketing purchases with 0.5% cashback on all card spending. Furthermore, they offer integrations with e-commerce platforms like Shopify, marketing channels like Google Ads and Meta Ads, and accounting systems like Dinero and Economic, helping e-commerce businesses gain insights and automate essential parts of their operations.

“Franklin has been well received with a lot of positive feedback, and we look forward to the collaboration with NIUM in this first, but important, step in Franklin’s journey. NIUM has quickly proven itself as a trusted partner, and its state-of-the-art technology aligns perfectly with our vision. The partnership with NIUM brings us closer to achieving our ambition of becoming the leading financial platform for e-commerce businesses.”

says Nikolaj Bomann Mertz, co-founder of Franklin

Franklin is founded besides Nikolaj by Johan Frølich, and Peter Klit, a team with extensive experience in fintech, e-commerce, and marketing. Additionally, the company has received investments of 350k EUR from various business angels.
