In a landmark deal that reshapes Europe’s shared mobility landscape, Danish peer-to-peer car-sharing platform GoMore earlier this month reported that they have acquired Getaround Europe, more than doubling its business and cementing its position as the continent’s market leader in the sector. The merger creates Europe’s largest P2P car-sharing platform, with operations in 11 countries, including Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, France, Spain, Belgium, and Austria.

The acquisition marks a historic moment for Danish tech, as GoMore, founded by Matias Møl Dalsgaard, becomes one of the few Nordic companies to consolidate a major European market, typically dominated by U.S. or international players.

“Normally, we see Danish companies being acquired by global giants. This time, a Danish company is leading the charge in a category as significant as car-sharing,”

Matias Møl Dalsgaard said

GoMore has been helping Danes get to and from places since 2005, and we previously reported the founders have been working full-time on the site since 2013. Since then the company has been on a growth journey, that still continues.

By the Numbers: Europe’s New Car-Sharing Powerhouse

The combined company boasts over 5 million users, 70,000 active shared cars, 18,000 vehicles with keyless technology and 1.5 million annual rentals. Gross revenue is reported as €240 million (DKK 1.8 billion) and €53 million (DKK 400 million) in net revenue. The company will have 300 employees.

Both GoMore and Getaround Europe are profitable, and the merger is expected to unlock significant synergies, accelerating growth across existing and new markets.

GoMore has a stronghold in the Nordics and Spain, while Getaround Europe dominates France and has a solid foothold in Western Europe. Together, they share a core mission: reducing urban congestion by promoting car-sharing over ownership.

“This fusion combines our technologies, platforms, and market positions, enabling us to scale car-sharing across Europe at an unprecedented pace,”

Matias Møl Dalsgaard said

The deal aligns with a growing demand for sustainable mobility, as cities grapple with traffic, pollution, and parking shortages.

Strong Investor Backing

The acquisition is financed through a mix of equity and debt, with existing investors, including Jesper Buch (Just Eat founder), Lennart Lajboschitz (Flying Tiger Copenhagen founder), Kaare Danielsen (Jobindex founder), Claus Moseholm, and Kasper Knokgaard, leading the equity portion. Danmarks Eksport- og Investeringsfond (EIFO) and Nordea provided debt financing.

“EIFO has supported GoMore since 2015, and its growth has been impressive. This acquisition highlights the potential for Danish companies to scale internationally while staying rooted in Denmark, exactly the kind of development we aim to support.”

said Signe Thustrup Kreiner, CCO of EIFO.

Additionally, Tim Albertsen, former CEO of Ayvens (the world’s largest leasing company), will join GoMore’s board and investor base, bringing deep automotive industry expertise to help strengthen the company’s private leasing ambitions.

With this deal, GoMore and Getaround Europe are joining forces to accelerate the shift toward sustainable, shared mobility.

“For years, both companies have worked toward the same vision. Now, we’re combining our strengths to take car-sharing to the next level across Europe.”

Matias Møl Dalsgaard said

The merged company expects to maintain annual growth rates of 20–30%, driven by expansion in existing markets and entry into new ones.

“Our strengths complement each other perfectly. Together, we’re better positioned to scale car-sharing and realize our shared vision for the future of mobility.”

said Marie Reboul, CEO of Getaround Europe.

The funds keep on rolling in for Scandinavia’s biggest carpolling and peer-to-peer car rental platform GoMore. After their launch in Spain, which doubled their userbase to over 500 000 users, the Danish startup has also increased their funding by an undisclosed amount in millions of Danish kroner.

Update: Finans.dk speculates that it is 10 million DKK ( € 1.4 million). GoMore themselves have not confirmed the number.

It’s only about six months since GoMore last raised capital from, among others, SEED Capital. Among this round of investors are the Austrian fund Polar Light Capital and Kaare Danielsen, founder of Jobindex and investor in several other Danish startups including Firmafon and SimpleSite.

“I see great potential in GoMore,” says Danielsen. “They’ve proved capable of establishing themselves as the leading actor in the Scandinavian markets and the acquisition of Amovens in Spain was a very smart move.”

The confidence from the investors is of course highly appreciated and GoMore is certainly growing fast.

“We’ve been working hard to make sure our product is the best it can possibly be by investing in brand new apps for iPhone and Android among other things. Now the time has come to show the world what we can really do,” says Matias Dalsgaard, founder and CEO of GoMore.

So what’s next for the firm? A solid plan is intact: consolidate the position as market leader in Scandinavia and expand to several newmarkets.

“We could choose to breakeven or even make a profit, but for now we’re investing in growth. My plan is to launch GoMore in three new markets in 2015,” predicts Dalsgaard.

It’ll be exciting to see what the next big headline for GoMore will be!

For the second time, Nordic Growth Hackers opened the doors to Founders House in Copenhagen and invited all interested individuals to an open event about online business and marketing.

“Growth hacking is a very large and very interesting tool box, that you can apply to your online business” says Morten Elk, Founder of SimpleSite, presenter of the event

For this event, six speakers were invited to tell the audience about their companies marketing; tools that worked well and the obstacles they had to overcome. The speakers of the evening were:

Matias Møl Dalsgaard, GoMore

Kaare Danielsen, Jobindex

Peter Schlegel, Admazely

Tomas Gorrissen, Responsive

Ture Dahl, Endomondo

Martin Bjergegaard, Pine Tribe

About the event

The speakers had about 15 minutes each to tell the audience about their experiences. They all spoke about various considerations and choices they’ve made in hope to make the company grow. Some choose to talk broadly about their experiences, while others went into detail. Common feature of most of them was to point out the importance to find a niche in order to make the company grow.

“You need to find a niche and do it differently from everybody else. It doesn’t really have to be better, but just differently” says Ture Dahl, Endomondo

For those looking for inspiration for their own business or are generally interested in different approaches in marketing an online business, the events organized by Nordic Growth Hackers is strongly recommended. Also, on their homepage you can find a collection of resources that are regarded as interesting and instructive for online businesses.

Did you miss the event? The event was filmed, so in the near future you will luckily be able to find it online on the YouTube channel, where also the previous videos can be found. And take the opportunity to book the next event even now; on April the 23rd the doors will open to a new and exciting event organized by Nordic Growth Hackers!

“I am pleased that so many Danes use GoMore. Our concept is based on a need to leverage our existing resources better when it comes to transportation. The idea is not new, but it has only become possible to practice over the past year as social media and mobile platforms have become widespread. The long term plan is for Danes to instinctively check GoMore on their phone when they require transportation or are able to offer a ride. I don’t see why we wouldn’t be able to get five million users in Denmark. “

For the time being, GoMore is setting its sights on dominating mobile platforms, with a new version of their iPhone app in the pipeline and a new Android app to follow thereafter.

GoMore‘s new leasing concept means that you can now lease a car for 6 months, renting it out 8 days of each month when not in use, to make a full return on your payment. Basically – lease a car for free!

The Danish platform for private car-leasing is eager to get this show in the road: you can already sign yourself up for a lease online. It is expected that the first cars will be out and rolling in just a few weeks. The first model will be the 10 Citroën C1, with new models added over time.

“We believe that this model has the potential to become mainstream in car ownership. Private rental and share-economy is here to stay, the younger generation is particularly interested in having access to a car for comfort and economy, than for ownership in the traditional sense.” says Matias Mol Dalsgaard, CEO. Director of GoMore.

While it previously has not been possible to rent privately leased vehicles, this new concept from GoMore and LeasePlan is a revolutionary step within car ownership.

“With our new concept, we open up a whole new market for private leases where the Danes who have not previously been able to afford it now can. At the same time, anyone can hire a new lease easily and cheaply when the need arises. Both the lease and the concept of shared cars is undoubtedly something we will see much more of in just a few years.” says Lars Eegholm, President. Director of LeasePlan Denmark.

How it Works

As a private person you lease a new car by LeasePlan for a period of 6 months for 1,795 Danish kr. per month, which includes the cost of insurance and 12,000km. There is no payment, but you must pay a deposit of 3,590 kr. Paid back by the end of the lease, less any damage and mileage. You can use the car in the same way you would any other private lease, but can also rent the vehicle via GoMore’s website when you are traveling or working and therefore not using it yourself.

You can rent it out at 225 kr per day. It is also possible to rent the car by the hour but at a minimum of four hours at a time. When you rent the car is entirely up to you and the days need not be consecutive. GoMore recommends renting it out 8 days of each month in order to completely reduce your final payment. Naturally, the more you rent out your car, the lower the fee of your monthly leasing. After the 6 months period you may continue with a new lease if you so desire.
