Back in 2021, Youcruit was riding high with fresh capital, thousands of haulers in the U.S. using its Lanefinder platform, and plans for an upcoming IPO.

Despite these high aspirations, Youcruit’s growth failed to accelerate. The company’s gross revenue peaked at just € 1 million in 2022, while it recorded a record loss of almost € 6 million. The startup struggled with a monthly burn rate of over € 250.000, heavily reliant on continual capital injections to sustain operations.

According to sources, the company was unable to secure sufficient new capital, which led to the decision to declare bankruptcy.

Despite the financial turbulence and the bankruptcy, the acquisition of Youcruit’s assets suggests that its core technology and business model may continue under new ownership. This sale might provide Youcruit with a second chance to realize its potential in the evolving job recruitment market, especially within the logistics and transportation sectors. The future of Youcruit now depends on the strategic direction and investments from its new owner, who appears ready to revitalize the platform and possibly steer it back to profitability.

“Already after three investor meetings, we were oversubscribed by the 25 million [SEK] we intended to bring in. Therefore, we decided to expand the round slightly to 33 million to accelerate even more towards the IPO. It too was oversubscribed in a couple of days. We are of course very happy that there was such great interest in our marketplace and the American trucking industry itself,” says YouCruit’s CEO Mats Holmbäck to Rapidus.

Youcruit started out with a focus on Video CVs, and received first investment in 2014. After some initial growth the startup focused on the Lanefinder app, and has extensive plans for how to develop it further. Amongst coming features is a focus on increasing the amount of drivers interacting with and sending their applications in the app.

The startup reported that almost 4000 hauliers in the U.S. have joined their service, and that their need for employment is around 200.000 drivers per year. According to Carl-Rafael Fredson, co-founder of Youcruit, their plan was not to seek venture capital active. But the offer they got from Menmo ventures was to good to pass up.

“Actually, we are not looking for money but rather their knowledge. They’re very good at packaging IT companies. In addition to the funding they have pledged to put quite a lot of work for us and that was what we wanted in the first place” Carl-Rafael says.

Youcruit is an application tool where job seekers can upload a video resume, track their applications and see when the employer read them. The service was released in late August and currently has major customers such as Starbucks, Fitness 24 Seven, Mercedes Benz and Euroflorist.

The company has recently been recognized as one of Sweden’s ten hottest startups and will go to San Francisco in late February and presentation to investors at the Launch Festival, an annual investor meeting in Silicon Valley.
