Queue-it, a global leader of virtual waiting room software and services, last week announced that GRO Capital has become a new majority shareholder and provide further capital into the Company to accelerate growth.

Queue-it is headquartered in Copenhagen with over 85 employees across offices in Copenhagen as well as in Minneapolis and Sydney.

“Throughout Queue-it’s journey we have felt strongly about proving that it is indeed possible to grow a company with a Danish foundation, so this was also important in our evaluation of potential investment partners and we are very happy that we are able to partner with such a strong local fund to boost our future growth.” said Niels Henrik Sodemann, CEO and Co-founder of Queue-it

Queue-it is a SaaS that provides a virtual waiting room that online enterprises use to manage end-user inflows to prevent overloading websites and apps, which would otherwise crash or slow down. The excess users are offloaded and placed in an orderly queue, which operates on a first-in-first-out principle to fairly manage the excess users.

The demand for Queue-it’s SaaS has been increasing globally along with customer awareness of potential solutions to manage web performance challenges, and the startup has grown revenues at a compounded annual growth rate of approximately 40% for the last 4 years.

“GRO brings a unique combination of competencies that will support our international expansion. The need for web performance solutions is rapidly increasing across markets as more and more online activities happen in peaks, which is exactly what our SaaS is built for.”

GRO Capital is a North European private equity fund with an exclusive focus on mature B2B software and tech. They serve as active owners developing portfolio companies with a view to create long-term value. Queue-it is the third investment in GRO Fund II, a fund with a strategy to accelerate Northern European software companies. With GROs investment it was also announced that the previous investors have exited the company.

That the nordic countries are known for being colder is common knowledge. And a lot of foreigners also know that the people living her have a more isolated approach to social contacts as well. This makes the Nordics always somewhat hard to settle in – and to feel really at home in.

But as foreigners are of huge importance for building successful startups, there has been formed a new initiative by Jessie Scheepers, head of people at Pleo, together with Morten Elk at SimpleSite, Camilla Ley Valentin at Queue-it and Christina Pansbo at Wunderman. They have taken the initiave to start a slack channel to make it easier for foreigners to feel more included in Copenhagen.

“….nothing says inclusivity these days as much as a Slack community, right? Welcome to #copenhagen. Join us in a place to mingle, connect with like-minded people, and try to start more sharing, more reach outs, and more connections with everyone else out there.” says Jessie in an annoucement.

The goal is to create a digital space where people can ask questions, find information and support, when moving to Copenhagen or thinking about moving here.

“We in Denmark actually rank in the bottom 5 of the hardest places for foreigners to settle – along with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. That, in itself, is a bit unsettling. We think we can do better.”

Copenhagen-based startup Queue-It calls themselves “a virtual waiting room” – they provide a queue system for websites and apps to prevent overload from many concurrent users, which, as a result, improves service quality and provides a fair customer experience. Queue-It has over 3 billion end-users within e-commerce, ticket sale industries and public sectors.

During Christmas sale in 2017, more than 133 million customers went through the queue system, and this year, at least 180 million users are expected.

“The internet traffic associated with Christmas shopping will peak earlier and extend over a longer period than we have seen so far,” said co-founder and CCO, Camilla Ley Valentin. “We look forward to ensuring a fair online experience around the world again this year,” says Ley Valentin.

Partnership with AudienceView

A couple of weeks ago the startup stepped into a strategic partnership with AudienceView. It is a Canadian corporation with 15 overseas offices, that delivers software to event and entertainment industries globally.

“We are extremely pleased to […] become an AudienceView partner, as the company has a unique customer base and supports many of the most recognized brands in live entertainment,” said Ley Valentin, “[…] The partnership […] represents a significant new business opportunity for Queue-IT. We are looking forward to offering a tailor-made package solution to AudienceView’s 2000+ customers, and for the continued development and growth of long-term cooperation.”

Both companies put an emphasis on delivering outstanding service experiences. Their first mutual participation will be in a high-profile ticket sale. One of the efficient strategies is blocking robots from accessing the webpage, thus allowing real users to buy tickets. The system also informs users about waiting times and number of available tickets. This makes the service encounter more interactive and enjoyable. The users, who prefer to leave the waiting page, receive an email when it is their turn to buy tickets.

“Including Queue-it in our partner ecosystem will enable us to help our customers carry out well-received ticket sales, while preserving the integrity of the order [and] keep the ticketing system running”, says Mike Evenson, VP of Strategy at AudienceView.

Startup Queue-it announces a historic milestone: over 3 billion end-users have passed through the company’s virtual waiting room platform. That means 3 billion concertgoers, streetwear enthusiasts, university applicants, and taxpayers have gone through one of the online queues set up by Queue-it’s customers in the ticketing, ecommerce, education, and public sectors.

In 2010, co-founders Niels Henrik Sodemann, Camilla Ley Valentin and Martin Pronk saw a gap in the increasingly-digital world. All websites and apps have traffic thresholds. But unlike in the physical world, there was no online equivalent to forming an orderly line. So, the three co-founded Queue-it, a virtual waiting room platform that prevents website or app downtime due to traffic peaks.

“This milestone shows how far we’ve come as a company. Eight years and 3 billion users later, here we are. We’re really thrilled with such growth,” says Co-founder and CEO Niels Henrik Sodemann. “We’re very proud of the value Queue-it has provided to our customers, and the fairness and transparency our virtual waiting room has brought to the end-user experience overall,” he adds.

With unresponsive websites, some end-users haphazardly get through to lagging websites or apps, while others don’t. With their tech excess end-users are offloaded to a customizable queue page, and returns them in a first-come, first-served order. End-users can see their place in line, estimated wait time, and any messages from the website or app administrators. The transparent first-in, first-out system is the most equitable way to process high-traffic events.

Queue-it’s solution also ensures the humanity of queuing by banishing the bots.

“It should be people, not bots, who get the coveted concert tickets or the stylish new sneakers” says Co-founder and CCO Camilla Ley Valentin.

By deploying Queue-it’s built-in fraud protection, Dutch streetwear retailer Patta was able to flag 80% of those in line as malicious bots.

“With busy Black Friday ecommerce sales just around the corner, we’re already gearing up for our four-billionth end-user, which we expect to surpass this year as well.” says Ley Valentin.

The award recognizes and celebrates both individuals and organisations that promote initiatives that drive gender diversity and gender equality in the tech industry.

“I am honored to be selected as a finalist, especially in a field of such inspiring and influential international female leaders in the technology industry”, says Camilla in a statement

Camilla made it to the finals along with two other female leaders within technology, on the basis of their contributions to bringing their technology companies to new successful heights and their enriching initiatives within both local and international tech communities. Camilla is the only nominated woman from the Nordics and the only nominee from a start-up.

This nomination stems from her continual engagement within the tech environment over the past 20 years. In previous years, she has also won the female entrepreneur of the year award for Queue-it’s radical and successful idea and has been featured as one of the fifty most inspiring European women in technology.

Camilla’s focus has not only been on growing Queue-it, but also on other contributions within the Danish and European tech community. One example is Women in Tech, the organization she co-founded together with other passionate female entrepreneurs. The primary aim of Women in Tech is to build relations among female founders and entrepreneurial minds in the tech community, supported by initiatives such as mentorship programs and networking events with a focus on inspiring diversity.

The technology company Queue-it is expanding fast. They recently revealed that they will open a new office in the US, and they also employed Dagrofa’s former IT Operations Manager, Michael Rasmussen, as the new Vice President of Technical Engagement.

Queue-it opens the US office in June, where the start-up phase focuses on hiring talent in technical support and sales. The company’s headquarters will continue to be in Denmark, where there are currently 70 employees. It will be Queue-its current vice president of marketing, Phil Hanson, who will lead the American company, Queue-it Inc.

“Our customer growth in the North American market means that we are now ready to establish a physical presence in the United States where we have decided to open offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota.” Says Queue-its CEO and co-founder, Niels Henrik Sodemann. “With a solid customer base, which accounts for one third of our total business, there are now significant benefits to placing employees in the United States”.

The new VP of Technical Engagement, Michael Rasmussen, will be situated at the headquarters in Denmark.

For the first annual Ticketing Technology Awards, held at Ireland’s number one visitor attraction: the Guinness Storehouse, Queue-it was nominated by judges in the category “Industry Supplier”. The category that recognizes suppliers for consistent service, innovation and support for the ticketing sector. However, it was the votes from the 450 delegates that determined Queue-it as the winner.

“We are very proud of winning this award and honored that so many people within the ticketing industry voted for our solution. It is a clear confirmation that we are creating value for a lot of ticket companies and their customers”, said Niels Sodemann, CEO and Co-Founder at Queue-it.

Queue-it has developed an online queueing system for managing website overload during extreme user peaks in relation to popular events and activities online. The solution protects the website against failure and long response times. This way, end-users have a meaningful experience, the performance of the website is maintained, and revenue is optimized.

“In our solution the end-users are placed in a queue according to the principle ‘first come, first served,’ and are informed about their individual progress at all times. This way, the user experience becomes transparent, trustworthy and fair, which makes ticket buyers more relaxed about their ticket purchase journey”, said Niels.

The award is one of the best that can be achieved in the industry. Ticketing Technology Forum is EMEA’s leading business meeting for entertainment professionals. More than 450 delegates and 200 organizations gathered to discuss the future within ticketing technology at this years event.

Queue-it continues their success by reaching more then one billion users who have accessed their online queue system. The startup, building on an online queueing system for managing website overload during extreme user peaks, has grown rapidly, having surpassed 500 millions users a little over a year ago.

“I am very proud of the success we have achieved, and reaching one billion users makes me very happy. It actually means that we have a solution that creates value for a lot of people” said CEO and Co-Founder, Niels Henrik Sodemann.

Many global IT companies are the startups customer, including Tickets.com, Dixons Carphone, Lilly Pulitzer, and Censosud.

Helped by Black Friday

The startup sees a clear increase in demand for their service from special occasions.

“More and more sales move online, and unique online shopping days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday pop up all over the world. This means that extreme online end-user peaks become more common. Thus, it is only natural that our clients want to secure a good end-user experience and service together with their profits when they have high traffic on their websites.”

According to Niels Henrik, Queue-it creates online fairness on transactional websites.

“To us, online fairness means that end-users experience a fair treatment when visiting different websites. That is what we want to achieve.”

Queue-it is offered as a Software-as-a-Service and serves to offload users that exceed site capacity limits to a queue system until they are automatically redirected back to the website they wanted to visit. The solution protects the website against failure and long response times. The end-users are placed in a queue according to the principle ‘first come first served’, and are informed about their individual status at all times. This way, the user experience becomes both transparent and fair.
