In total 230 startups from Sweden and abroad applied to the Helsingborg based accelerator, making it a new record for the Southern Nordic accelerator. Last week nine selected startups began their journey with the three-month program. Companies from Russia, Finland, South America, Copenhagen and Sweden will advance their business and get tailored coaching and workshops from THINK and external coaches during 12-weeks.

“We have got a solid line-up this time with a broad variation within the group, and we have taken in almost the doubled as we used to. The thing that they all have in common is that they are powerful teams and co-founders. The focus will be on building the companies, create valuable relationships and get them ready for investment. Something that we think all of them will succeed in.” Alexander Bastien, Managing Director.

The startups represent various areas in AI, fintech, booking services for families with kids, digital interior design and retail market.

“The main purpose is to attract new startups to the region and Helsingborg. Helsingborg is one of the best places to start a company. The city of Helsingborg is very open to innovation and technology, and it shows in all of the support organisations that are working to build a better community and better job opportunities right now.” Jenny Sandberg, Head of Programs.

The program will culminate in HBGTECH in late May, where the startups will pitch in front of investors and showcase their business.

Tattoodo was founded in 2013 by the serial entrepreneurs Mik Thobo-Carlsen and Johan Plenge. The platform covers all aspects of tattoo culture and it even lets users request tattoos. Tattoo artists can receive immediate feedback on the sketches they submit on the platform.

Tattoodo has today 20M users every month and 346K uploaded tattoos to choose between.

Second investment in one year

The investment was provided by both new and existing shareholders, including Christian Stadil, Daniel Agger, Jan Bech Andersen, Bjarke Ingels, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and venture capital fund Nordic Eye.

In December 2016 Tattoodo closed an investment round at $8,5M to expand to the American market. The company still struggles to become profitable, with losses at DKK 17,6M ($2,8M) in 2016.

Held at the company’s production facility in Landskrona, Uniti’s first annual launch event (U17) offered a first peek of the capabilities of Uniti One in front of a 2,000-people strong crowd of press, insiders, enthusiasts, investors, and partners.

Audience members were given a hands-on preview of the vehicle’s many innovative features, with an energy efficiency (300km with only a 22kWh battery), and it’s unique and intuitive user experience. It can even be installed with accessories like a car windscreen sun shade. Lewis Horne, CEO of Uniti states:

A demonstration of its forward-thinking interior drew audible interest as it showcased two available steering options, one traditional and also their world-first, center pivot joystick control system unique to Uniti.

The event also included demonstrations and symposia from teams representing twenty-four key partners including Nvidia, Siemens, Tele2, E.ON, Kuka Robotics, Haldex, BorgWarner, Fanuc Robots and many more. To illustrate how the highly sustainable Uniti One will emit at least 75% less carbon across its lifecycle, partner Kuka Robotics demonstrated a vision of Uniti’s lean and automated approach to manufacturing, one that is significantly more scalable than traditional automotive production methods. Uniti will offer a line of two, four and five-seat vehicle models, with first deliveries targeted for 2019. The high-end versions will retail for around €19,900, with lower cost options available for as low as €14 900. Eager customers can join the growing list, with over 1,000 pre-orders to date.

“Our VR and AR lab in Malmö has been very successful. Many big companies have been there and experienced the potential of technology, so we want to do something similar but focusing on smart buildings and cities”, says Jayway’s CEO Philip Kron to Rapidus.

In a deal worth $200 million, SmartThings was acquired by Samsung three years ago and has established itself as a distinguished developer for smart houses. The company currently operates independently within the framework of the Samsung Group and is responsible for its Internet of Things development.

Jayway and SmartThings have collaborated within the IoT area for a year and the lab now being built in Copenhagen is part of this cooperation. The lab will also contain technology from another leading domestic automation company that Jayway collaborates with. The new lab is expected to open next year, which initially involves at least six new services in Copenhagen.

Since the start, Jayway has been working on small IT consultancy assignments and in recent years, they have also taken on major projects, such as the technology development of Gleerup’s digital teaching materials and Kronaby smart watches.

During 2017, Jayway has hired over 50 people worldwide and now has more than 200 employees. Next year, Philip Kron expects another 40 people to be recruited, and sales will exceed SEK 200 million with margin. Plans are also on launching a Stockholm lab with a focus on the Internet of Things for retail.

This year, sales of approximately SEK 175 million, an increase of approximately 10 million from 2016.

Minut is headquartered in Malmö, Sweden, with 15 people in the team. The company is headed by Nils Mattisson (ex-Apple) and is composed of engineers and builders from Google, TAT, Axis and more.

Point is the first home alarm in a single device that doesn’t rely on intrusive cameras. Rather than cameras and complex alarm systems with several different components, Point applies artificial intelligence to environmental sensors to understand what’s going on in the home, try the new DSLR cameras for beginners if you want to start with a good camera.
Intrusions, fire, and windows breaking are some of the things Point can detect. If an important event happens, Point alerts you and your community of family, friends or neighbors instantly, so that you can help each other when looking out for your home.

“Point is the first home alarm that respects your privacy while giving you comfort knowing everything is fine at home”, says Nils Mattisson, CEO of Minut, in a press release.

Point is trained to detect specific events and no sensitive, personal data, ever leaves the device. People should not have to choose between privacy and safety.

“The market as it looks today is crowded by security cameras. But there are a lot of reasons people don’t want or can have, a security camera in their living room. With Point, we offer an alternative”, says Nils Mattisson.

The first version of Point launched in 2014 and is now available in over 60 countries. It is sold directly to consumers and through partnerships with insurance companies and telcos. The new generation is expected to reach the first customers in May 2018.

The event took place at DR Koncerthuset where AI Enthusiasts and experts gathered for a day of knowledge sharing. The main focus of the summit was allocated to cognitive technologies and AI.

According to IBM Cognitive technologies will all businesses be ‘cognitive at the core’, within a few years,  This will, in turn, strengthen the foundation of the business and the decisions that are being made on a continuous basis.

Six startups working with cognitive technologies

As part of the summit, BotSupply was chosen along with five other startups that work with: AI, Cognitive Computing, and Big Data Analytics to participate in the Startup Event. The competing startups presented a pitch that highlighted how they use technology to create maximum value, how their startup is built up and explained their business model.

The prize BotSupply received was both a trophy and a check for 120.000 USD worth of Bluemix credits to be used on Watson technologies.

Seven years ago the two founders of Autobutler launched their idea of creating the world’s largest online portal for car repairs. Unlike the retail & travel industries, the car repair market has yet to benefit from a digital, transformative wave to facilitate and simplify the relationship between car owners, who may have recently done mistakes like filling wrong fuel in car, & garages. Autobutler positions itself as a catalyst for this transformation
