Helsingborg is poised to become the first municipality in Sweden to test AI programs designed to alleviate the workload of social secretaries, with technology provided by the startup Klang.ai. This pilot project, involving 20 social secretaries, has already demonstrated substantial time savings, showcasing the potential of AI in transforming social services, has recently been highlighted by SVT, the national Swedish Broadcasters.
Klang.ai’s Role in Social Services
Klang.ai’s AI program transcribes, summarizes, and makes lengthy client conversations searchable, offering significant benefits in areas like child assessments where sensitive topics are discussed and extensive documentation is required. The technology aims to streamline administrative tasks, allowing social secretaries to focus more on client interactions and support.
“After working with this system, it will be hard to go back.”
said Sakarias Adlouni, a social secretary involved, to SVT.
The recorded conversations are promptly deleted once documented, ensuring privacy and data security.
Transforming Social Services
The social services sector faces significant challenges, with extensive documentation requirements making the profession less attractive. Innovation leader Martina Avasoo Barte sees Klang.ai’s solution as a potential game-changer.
“We’re immensely proud to team up with the City of Helsingborg. By helping social secretaries save valuable time, they can invest that time supporting more citizens. This collaboration demonstrates clearly how secure, high-end AI can directly contribute to social good, aligning perfectly with our mission at Klang.ai.”
says Niklas Silfverström, co-founder at Klang.ai
Navigating Legal and Security Challenges
Implementing AI in social services requires rigorous data security measures. The City of Helsingborg is carefully navigating the legal complexities involved, with other municipalities closely monitoring the outcomes. Helsingborg has a reputation for trying and testing new innovative services, and pushing the boundaries of the regulatory system.
“There is significant interest from other municipalities in how we are addressing these issues,”
said Martina Avasoo Barte, Innovation leader at City of Helsingborg to SVT.
Klang.ai’s involvement in this pilot project represents a significant step forward in integrating AI into social services, potentially transforming how documentation and client interactions are managed in the future.
