Calling all female entrepreneurs of the Öresund region: Berlin’s Geekettes want you and your innovative mind for their first European Demo Day, at Google’s office, Berlin on June 6th of this year.
The Geekettes are a community of women who provide encouragement and support to female entrepreneurs and tech innovators, and aim to bring together women from all around the world through events, workshops and online. Their founder, Jess Erickson, explains her vision behind the group:
“I’d love to see more women, more women of color, and just more ladies from all over the world to realize tech is the future. We need to leave our own imprint, develop into leadership roles. It’s much easier to enter now than 10 years when barriers will be higher.”
A Success Story Like No Other
The organization may be based and born in Berlin and initially funded out of the founders’ private pockets, but after a few years of hard work, determination and partnerships with both Sony and Deutsche Telekom, the concept has successfully captured several of the globe’s biggest cities, with launch parties celebrated from London to New York. And now, they’re looking for Scandinavian blood to make their first European Demo Day an international success.
And what better way to celebrate Sweden’s national day than by giving the country a boost in startup numbers and girl power?
An Inspirational Event
The event intends to support female business founders by guiding them in their investment pitching. All eligible members of the public are invited to join, a lucky 10 of which will be chosen via a screening process to receive the incredible chance of pitching their startup to a group of investors, VCs and angels, with the potential that their business will peak the investors’ interest and receive funding. In this way, the event hopes to increase the number of female-led startups and ensure that these span far across Europe. Sponsored by Google and Hub:raum, with potential funders 500 startups, Index Ventures and Sunstone Capital, Geekettes Demo Day looks set to be a fantastic opportunity for women of the web to get a head start in the startup scene.
So ladies, what are you waiting for? Applications must be in by the 3rd of April and seats are limited, hurry and sign up now!
