Marathon Software has acquired a majority of the shares in Extended Control, a Malmö-based software company developing and selling software for the automation and administration of terminals and depots handling bulk liquid products.

Extended Control’s customers use the a terminal automation system to control the loading, storage, and distribution of bitumen, petroleum products, biofuels, and specialty chemicals. The system provides real-time visualisation of terminal processes and terminal management, including truck, ship, and rail loading, mass balance, ERP integration, and regulatory reporting. The solution is used today by customers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, and the United Kingdom.

The company was founded in 2014 in Malmö by Anders Mathiesen and Andreas Gustafsson, who have built the business on deep technical expertise and close relationships with customers in the bitumen, energy, and chemical industries.

“We have built Extended Control into one of the leading providers of terminal automation in the Nordics, and demand today is greater than ever. We see a growing need for our products and a mutual customer desire for long-lasting partnerships. With Marathon, we get an owner who values that long-term commitment to our customers as much as we do, and who supports us on the journey ahead,”

said Anders Mathiesen, CEO of Extended Control.

Through the partnership with Marathon, Extended Control gains a long-term owner with resources and experience in developing niche software companies. Mathiesen and Gustafsson remain in the company and become co-owners alongside Marathon. Rolf Allgulander, with extensive experience from the Nordic process and terminal industry, most recently as VP Manufacturing at Nynas, joins the board.

“The team at Extended Control has created a great business with a strong position in a niche where the requirements are high and the margin for error is small. A truly business-critical system. The domain expertise Anders and Andreas have built is hard to replicate, and we look forward to supporting them as a long-term owner, growing the team and offering, so that more terminals across the Nordics gain access to their solution,”

said Richard Treffner, CEO of Marathon Software.

Marathon Software develops and markets niche B2B software solutions through several subsidiaries, each with a solution for its customer group. As a permanent owner with active engagement, the company supports the growth and product development of its industry winners while continuing to acquire further industry-leading niche B2B software companies.
