Orbital Systems is a cutting edge technology company located in Malmö that has developed a technology for recycling and purifying shower water. Their closed loop showers enable water and energy savings up to 90% compared to conventional showers, while at the same time increasing comfort and hygiene. The Swedish Energy Agency, who are working for a sustainable energy system, is investing SEK 20.6 million (€21.4 million) in Orbital Systems’ eco-friendly showers, according to 8till5.

The company’s founder and president, Mehrdad Mahdjoubi, was recently named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York. Orbital Systems is considered the global leader in domestic water savings with its exceptional entrepreneurial capacity and ability to create and lead a successful business.

The shower, which is the first product where we use our technology, accounts for over a third of water use in Swedish homes. In the future, we will also implement the technology in other products and systems, says Mehrdad Mahdjoubi.

The Swedish Energy Agency are targeting to support small, innovative businesses with a focus on growth. Last year, Orbital Systems had 18 employees and a sales of SEK 2.9 (€3 million). With previous significant investors such as skype co-founder Niklas Zennström, together with a large selection of Nordic VC funds, this new investment is a big step forward for Orbital Systems’ in transitioning from a technology-oriented startup to a market-oriented company.

We believe that aid to create endurance is required to get through the development and launch a marketing product that is ready for global deployment, says Markus Berglund.
